Death stemmed from a domestic abuse incident
On March 24, 2022, the suspect and the victim's mother whose name has not been revealed argued during the early morning hours and Morris began assaulting the woman whom he had been dating for a year. It was only two weeks before the death that Morris moved into her apartment. On March 1, the woman received an order of protection for herself and her 13-year-old son.
During the argument, Morris hit the woman's head with a pipe, and a metal bed frame and then strangled her. While she tried to defend herself, she managed to take a knife from under a bed. However, Morris snatched it away from her.
Hoff called 911 himself after being stabbed
During the attack, the man tried to stab the woman using the knife but ended up stabbing her son who stood just behind his mother. The boy who was stabbed in the chest called 911 while he was bleeding to report that the 39-year-old man was assaulting his mother, said prosecutors.
Following the arrival of the responding officers at the scene, the boy was found lying on the kitchen floor in a pool of blood. He was shifted to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. On one arm of the woman, she had deep bite marks and also had cuts on her hands and head. Inside the apartment, the officers found her 1-year-old daughter.
Morris is currently held on unconditional bail of $500,000 at the Renville County Jail and on May 10, he will be sentenced at the Renville County Courthouse, reported People.
