'Hospital Playlist' Season 1 Ending Explained: Questions about Ik-jun and Seok-hyeon remain after cliffhanger

The last episode of 'Hospital Playlist' Season 1 was almost 2 hours long and the episode was expected to answer some very important questions about where Ik-jun (Cho Jung-seok), Jeong-won (Yoo Yeon-seok), Song-hwa (Jeon Mi-do), Seok-hyeon (Kim Dae-myung) and Jun-wan's (Jung Kyoung-ho) choices will lead them. However, not all questions were answered and with that cliff hanger of an ending, we can only hope for the new season to drop sometime soon. In fact, the only character that answered the questions that fans have raised over the season is Jeong-won.

Jeong-won had decided that he would give up on his dream of becoming a priest so that he can continue to be a much needed pediatric surgeon. He also accepted Gyeo-wool's love and the two are now together. However what about Ik-jun? One of the most burning questions that we are left with when it comes to General Surgeon Ik-jun is if he got a positive response from Song-hwa after having confessed his love for her. Over the season, Ik-jun had only hinted at his interest and had mentioned that he had thought of Song-hwa as more than friends at one point in their relationship.

However, now he visited Song-hwa after she moved to the regional branch just before leaving for his symposium and confessed that he has fallen for her. She is flustered but doesn't seem as if she is going to reject him right away. However, just when it is about to get awkward, Ik-jun tells her that she can think it over and give him the answer when he returns from Spain. So what happened then? We are never told and this relationship is something that we have shipped over the weeks so we definitely need to know how their relationship changes after Ik-jun's confession.

Then there is also the fact that one of his best friends, Jun-wan, is dating his sister Ik-sun. For now, it doesn't seem as if Ik-jun is aware of their relationship and Jun-wan had even tried to tell him the truth but surgeries among other things kept coming in the way. At one point, it even seemed as if Ik-jun wanted to avoid a conversation with Jun-wan as if he wanted to push it as much as possible too. So if faced directly with the fact that his sister is dating Jun-wan, how would he react?

Jun-wan himself seems to be going through a tough time now that he is in a long-distance relationship with Ik-sun who has left for London to do her doctorate. At this rate, will he even tell Ik-jun the truth or would he wait until Ik-sun returns to break the news? This is something that begs more attention as well. Ik-jun and his four friends became as close as they are in medical school. However, his relationship with Jun-wan goes back to when the two were in playschool so of course, Ik-jun's approval of Jun-wan would greatly matter.

Then, of course, there is Seok-hyeon. It initially seemed as if he did not hold too many secrets. He had told his friends that he had decided to stay a doctor against his dead father's wishes to run their conglomerate. He had also revealed that he was not interested in dating at the moment, which was a response to his resident Min-ah's confession too. However, it is at the end of the episode that we see Seok-hyeon receive a phone call from someone called Yoo Sin-hye. Is this his ex-wife? Or is this someone connected to his dead father? The look of disdain when he answers the call hints at the possibility of it being either.

All of these will be further explored in the upcoming season that the show has officially announced will drop in 2021.

For now, all episodes of 'Hospital Playlist' Season 1 can be streamed on Netflix.
