SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA: A horrifying video has surfaced showing a 17-year-old cat called Brandy being stolen by a boy wearing a mask before the cat was found dead in a pond. The suspects, two boys who are 12 and 14, have been charged over an alleged act of animal cruelty in Sydney’s north west.

The footage showed a teenager running through the streets with the cat from a home on Livorno Grove, Glenwood, around 4.30 pm on Wednesday, March 8 according to 7News. The footage also captured another boy approaching the home. As per the report, the teens tortured and killed the helpless feline.

'I just had an instinct that something was wrong'

Talking about the cat, Emily Bidart, 28, who was 11 when Brandy came home, said, “The neighbours all knew (Brandy) as the weird cat that comes for walks in the park. I look out my bedroom window at mum’s house and that’s exactly where she was (allegedly) murdered." She said that drove to her parents’ home in Glenwood after she received a call from her mother, who was concerned about the cat's absence. She said, “Brandy has been missing before for a couple of days, and she just comes back," adding, "As soon as I got home I didn’t even go into the bush to go searching for her, I just went straight to the security cameras to look at the footage because I just had an instinct that something was wrong.”

She saw a boy running from the front steps of the home, and heard saying, “You wanna go cat?” Then a boy comes back 23 minutes later, wearing a hoodie with a face mask on and allegedly takes Brandy from the front garden. “Obviously, I was freaking out, I was inconsolable. And then mum was like, ‘Go to the camera that’s on the side of the house so we can see where they have run to,'" Bidart said.

'The first blow to my cat I had to look away'

Elaborating on what happened, Bidart said, "That’s when the boy that (allegedly) took her passed her over the fence to another boy. As soon as I (allegedly) saw the first blow to my cat I had to look away.” Her friend, Liz, then watched the video footage of the attack and immediately rushed to the nearby park. Bidart said, “Liz just went out to the park because she thought, ‘What would a teenage boy do after this, what stupid act would they do.' She checked the pond, and that’s when she found Brandy’s body in the pond.”

Boys to appear at children's court

The family then filed a report with NSW Police, who arrested the two boys on Tuesday, March 14. The police said in a statement, "About 4.30pm on Tuesday 8 March 2023, police will allege two boys took a cat from a home on Livorno Grove, Glenwood, into a nearby clearing," adding, "Following extensive inquiries, investigators arrested two boys, aged 12 and 14, at a home in Glenwood about 5pm yesterday (Tuesday 14 March 2023). They were taken to Riverstone Police Station, where they were charged with torture, beat and cause death to animal, and dispose killed/stolen animal. Both boys were granted strict conditional bail and are due to appear at a children’s court on Tuesday 4 April 2023."
