Homophobic woman hurls abuses at lesbian couple because they 'kissed in front of her' on the subway
Two women in Barcelona were subjected to a shocking homophobic tirade by a woman who took offense to them kissing in front of her.
Carla Gallén, one of the victims, captured the entire incident on video and posted it on her Twitter account with the caption, "On Wednesday afternoon, my partner and I suffered homophobic aggression on the underground. A woman insulted and attacked us for kissing."
The video of the incident which unfolded in a crowded subway train has already been viewed more than 200,000 times and sees the woman, who had a pram with a baby in it, call the lesbian couple "dikes," "c***suckers," and refer to her own brother as a "f*****".
"Dike, dike, what are you going to do with a video?" the woman can be heard yelling. She then aggressively approaches the pair and wags her finger at them as she starts lecturing them about their lack of respect for her.
"You disgust me, I have a gay brother, but he doesn't kiss in front of me because he respects me," she screams at them.
When she overhears them talking to one another in Catalan, she scoffs at them and says, "Oh, you are also Catalan," to which one of the pair hits back and says, "Oh, so you are a homophobic and a racist!"
As the confrontation continues, the woman tries to grab the phone they're using to record the incident and threatens them, "Stop recording or I'll take your phone."
When she fails to do so after a brief struggle, she exclaims loudly, "This c***sucker is recording me!"
"Insults and threats continued for ten minutes," Gallén wrote. "In the middle of a wagon full of people. Nobody moved a finger. It is very easy to put "badges" on the day of Pride, but the LGBTQIA + people continue to suffer daily violence for the connivance with this type of aggressions."
"The only person who interceded it was a person who, if any, had more chances of being assaulted than us, an elderly, Muslim woman with veil, who intervened physically when the woman tried to catch my phone and hurt my partner's arm," she continued.
The ranting stops after a male passenger intervenes and tells the woman that she should "express your opinion respectfully."
"Unfortunately we live in a society that still tells us that verbal violence and physical aggressions (slight) are not enough reason to denounce," Gallén tweeted. "This is the structural basis of violence, normalize "minor" aggressions to naturalize homophobia."
The Daily Mail reported that the victims have filed a complaint against the abuser with the Catalan police and Observatory against Homophobia. The Public Prosecutor's Office has also been informed of the incident.
