Spoiler alert for 'Homeland' Season 8 Episode 5 'Chalk Two Down'

'Homeland' fans across the world were in for a major shocker when the hit political thriller rolled out its fifth episode on Sunday, March 8. For starters, they were aghast when the storyline saw the US and Afghanistan presidents declared dead after their chopper crashes. Even more saddening was Max Piotrowski's situation. Maury Sterling, who plays the character has been a favorite since his introduction to the show and the final minutes of the episode teases a tragic end to the character.

Fans took to Twitter when Max's uncertain fate was shown. Some of them hoped he wouldn't bite the dust. "If you kill him, we will riot!" read a tweet with fans seconding the opinion. #PrayforMax was a trending hashtag that fans used in almost all their posts. Some of them hoped Max would live to see another day.

"Max better be okay or else !!" wrote a fan. "Max will surely be ok," said another. Some of them were impressed with Max's wry sense of humor even in the face of adversity. When Carrie Mathison (Claire Danes) asks him to retrieve the black box and asks him if he's got it, he affirms with a quick quip that had fans in splits. "Btw I like when Carrie asked Max if he get the black box and he literally said its orange," a fan tweeted

And there were fans who had their own theories on how the team would rescue Max. "Carrie goes to save him with the help of her Russian bear: Yevgeny. Man who says he is in love, but who compromises her in the suspicion of recruitment." A pretty sound theory that one.

While people in Brazil were unhappy. "What happened to the sound of Homeland's E5? The episode was muted, here in Brazil, both on TV and in the app. Total disappointment, the caption was working!" a fan asked. Well, Showtime should look into that one.

What are your thoughts on Max's dire situation?

'Homeland' Season 8 premieres on February 9 at 9 pm ET/PT on Showtime.
