Spoilers for 'Homeland' Season 8 Episode 12 'Prisoners of War'

After eight compelling seasons, Showtime's political drama finally came to an end with a riveting finale. And fans were over the moon with the ending as they took to Twitter to share their emotions and thanks for a decade of solid entertainment.

To sum up the ending, in a nutshell, Carrie Mathison (Claire Danes) is the spy who is now trickling down secret info from Russia to Saul Berenson (Mandy Patinkin). "I'd say she redeemed herself. Wouldn't you? #Homeland" asked one of the fans.

"How beautifully he describes her in Ep 11, and then the look in his eyes at the end when he finds the note  I just hope everyone to have in their life someone to love them how Saul loves Carrie! Bravo @PatinkinMandy! You’re BRILLIANT, Sir," remarked another.

"Homeland gave 8 impressive seasons and a perfect series finale!!! Cheers" tweeted a fan. "Great final episode! Thank you for all the great entertainment throughout the past almost decade," exclaimed one of the fans.

"Eight years of intrigue and suspense. A lot of anxiousness in our household every Sunday evening during seasons. But we’ll miss it!" observed a fan.

"I had a lump in my throat when this final episode began. I felt queasy after 20 minutes. I was fuming halfway through. Now I'm SMDH and can’t stop smiling. I'm going to miss #Homeland so damn much. Long live #CarrieAndSaul," wrote a fan.

One fan believes this is not the end. "Excellent way to close it out. Jaw-dropping ending! I can’t wait to see what the next continued chapter is because it’s not ending there. Absolutely LOVED the beginning," he wrote.

"Best 2 characters in a long time. Kept me on my toes and on a  for 8 amazing seasons. Thank you SO much," a tweet read.

"WOW. Speechless. An ending I couldn’t have imagined but in fact perfect, and in keeping with the entire show from the start. Heartbroken by the ending of a brilliant series, but so satisfied by the conclusion. Bravo" another said. "It has been a hell of a journey and there was no better way to end things," said one of the fans.

"@SHO_Homeland I do not have words for the perfection of tonight's episode. It was stunning in every detail and a quintessential gem that we could not possibly have seen coming in our wildest dreams. I’m in literal pain from its sheer beauty and completeness. 8 years! Thank you!" tweeted a fan.

And here's one to sum up: "Perfect remains the only word to describe Homeland series. @PatinkinMandy is a genius for such a display of creativity at that unique age. I will forever miss this show. #HomelandFinale  @SHO_Homeland."
