Jim Carrey, Michael Moore, Bette Midler... Hollywood rings in New Year slamming Trump: 'Kick his ass in 2020'
Various Hollywood celebrities, vocal critics of President Donald Trump, carried their resistance against him into the new decade by slamming him on Twitter and wishing for a year that “doesn’t include an ignorant corrupt soulless liar occupying the People’s House.”
Famed director Michael Moore, who recently endorsed Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) for the 2020 presidential elections, took to the popular micro-blogging site, declaring that America, this year, will "dump Trump."
“Happy New Year & new decade everyone! It can only get better! This is Year we dump Trump & send a true advocate to the White House with a mass movement behind him/her,” he tweeted, adding, "We’ll win the Senate flipping just 3 seats. Kindness will reign. Men will listen instead of fake listen. Pie!”
Broadway star Bette Midler, while referring to the US embassy attack in Baghdad, rebuked Trump and tweeted: "Here’s your first 2020 crisis, Donnie! I hear you were out golfing and re-tweeting boxing matches! Way to go, babe!! So inspiring to all.” “Can’t wait to hear your testimony in front of Congress…oh wait..." she went on.
Acclaimed author Stephen King wrote a short rhyme from his Twitter handle on New Year, writing: "Of his lies we’ve had plenty, Kick his ass in 2020."
Director Rob Reiner wrote: "Wishing everyone a Happy New Year and a 2020 that doesn’t include an ignorant corrupt soulless liar occupying the People’s House."
Meanwhile, director Judd Apatow slammed First Lady Melania Trump, particularly mocking her for her New Year's wish, in which she called for "peace on the world." Apatow, in his tweet, wrote: "Maybe she meant piss on the world. Isn’t that how this whole mess started."
Comedienne Rosie O'Donnell also slammed the president, referring he be removed from power in 2020. She wrote: "HAPPY NEW YEAR ALL #2020removeHIM."
Actor Jim Carrey, one of the most staunch critics of the president, wrote: "Happy New Year to everyone! This year, let’s fill our hearts up with gratitude: treat every month in 2020 as if its May and the trees are full of mangoes!" He also posted a picture of him grabbing a mango, which says "In 2020 'MANGOES," in an apparent wordplay of 'man goes.'
West Wing actor Bradley Whitford also rang in his new year by condemning the president. Whitford claimed that Trump "fetishizes dictators and war criminals while undermining democracy and attacking war heroes. He is an inversion of the spectacular, unfulfilled aspiration of our country. Check your registration. Organize. Vote him out."
“2020 is our chance to fix the mistake we made in 2016. Or to dig the knife in deeper–which would be particularly dangerous because we’re probably losing our healthcare,” Full Frontal’s Samantha Bee warned. “Anyways, Happy New Year to all!”
On the other hand Rosanna Arquette, in her veiled attack at Trump, tweeted: "Putin is not my president. Happy new year."
'American Horror Story' star Billy Eichner tweeted: "2020 goal: Trump loses and they let Rachel Maddow and I get blacked out drunk on MSNBC for New Years to compete with Anderson and @Andy."
'General Hospital' actress Amber Tamblyn wrote: "Happy new year to everyone except Donald Trump."
