Hoda Muthana: Jihad bride not allowed back in US, here are the facts behind her 'US citizenship'
President Donald Trump's team on Wednesday said that the "Islamic State (ISIS) bride" Hoda Muthana, who wants to come back to the country, will not be allowed back because she is not an American citizen.
The 24-year-old abandoned her home in Alabama and fled to Syria to join ISIS in 2014. Muthana, in an ABC News interview on Tuesday, had stated that she hoped America had sympathy for her and that she is allowed to come back. Muthana said that she hopes Americans will “excuse me because of how young and ignorant I was. Now I’m changed. Now I’m a mother and I have none of the ideology, and hopefully, everyone will see it when I come back," the 24-year-old said.
However, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, in a statement, responded by saying: "Ms. Hoda Muthana is not a US citizen and will not be admitted into the United States. She does not have any legal basis, no valid US passport, no right to a passport, nor any visa to travel to the United States. We continue to strongly advise all US citizens not to travel to Syria," Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, in a statement, said.
