WASHINGTON, DC: Hillary Clinton apparently lost the last vestiges of Internet support after she spoke in support of Kevin McCarthy, who was recently ousted from the position of GOP House Speaker.

McCarthy’s 269-day reign as speaker ended on Tuesday, October 3, when eight conservative Republicans, along with all Democrats, supported a motion to vacate introduced by GOP Rep Matt Gaetz.

The vote on Tuesday, with a tally of 216-210, marked McCarthy as the first Speaker in the 234-year history of the United States Congress to have his gavel taken away by fellow lawmakers.

McCarthy’s ouster was effectively set in quick motion on Saturday when he pulled off a surprising legislative victory, getting Democrats to join Republicans in approving a short-term funding bill that avoided a government shutdown.

What does Hillary Clinton say about Kevin McCarthy?

Just a few hours after the vote out, Clinton sat down for an interview with PBS News, where she was asked if McCarthy deserved to keep his position as the house speaker.

“Does Congressman McCarthy, Speaker McCarthy, does he deserve to keep his job as speaker, and should Democrats help bail him out?” host Geoff Bennett asked.

To which, Clinton replied that the former speaker did what was good for the country. “I was pleasantly surprised that the speaker did the right thing when he made common cause with those, as we like to say, grownup members of his own Republican Caucus and Democrats to keep the government open,” she said.

Clinton continued by asserting that “I would have hope that that kind of mature leadership isn't punished by the most extreme members of his caucus.”

“So, how the Democrats play this — and they have a couple of different options — is for them to decide,” she added.

“But I think McCarthy did the right thing for the country. And isn't that a good thing to be able to say he did the right thing for the country?” she continued.

Internet reacts to Hillary Clinton's remark over Kevin McCarthy

Clinton's remark over McCarthy’s ouster garnered immense social media attention, with one user saying “You got that right! Anything that comes out of her mouth, the opposite is true.”

“McCarthy did what the Democrats wanted. That’s why he is no longer a speaker,” a user asserted.

“Yeah pretty much. Do they think a Liberal would vote for them? Of course not, but they are favoring this outcome and he just threw his electorate in the trash,” a user said.

“When she supports a Republican…nothing else needs to be said,” a user fumed.

Another user wrote, “Of course she did. Kevin gave Democrats everything they wanted while giving them what the people wanted, nothing. Hillary should go off to the sunset, she's a disgrace.”

“If Hillary Clinton supports Kevin McCarthy as Speaker, he needs to be removed immediately!” one more said.
