WASHINGTON, DC: The Internet was abuzz with discussions surrounding former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's past remarks on the situation in Gaza Strip, amid the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas. Many found themselves reconsidering the accuracy of her statements, wondering if she had been "right all along."

Earlier this month, the Gaza Strip witnessed a devastating turn of events when Hamas launched an attack on nearby Israeli towns from the blockaded territory. This assault resulted in the tragic loss of over 1,400 Israeli lives.

In response, Israel declared war against Hamas and initiated a series of airstrikes in the Gaza Strip, leading to the loss of more than 2,700 Palestinian lives.

Hillary Clinton's 2016 remarks on Gaza goes viral

Amid this escalating conflict, an old clip resurfaced on social media, featuring Hillary Clinton's 2016 Democratic primary debate discussion with fellow nominee Bernie Sanders.

In this exchange, Clinton, who had played a pivotal role in negotiating a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas in November 2012, highlighted the situation in Gaza.

She pointed out that, after Israel's withdrawal from Gaza, the area was expected to become a land of prosperity for the Palestinian people. However, instead of flourishing, Gaza had turned into a base for millitants, with Iran and other territories supplying weapons to Hamas.

Clinton emphasized, "Remember Israel left Gaza. They took out all the Israelis. They turned the keys over to the Palestinian people, and what happened? Hamas took over Gaza. So instead of having a thriving economy with the kind of opportunities that the children of the Palestinians deserve, we have a terrorist haven that is getting more and more rockets shipped in from Iran and elsewhere."

Internet hails Hillary Clinton's 'spot-on' assessment

As the clip gained traction on social media, numerous individuals voiced their agreement with Clinton's take.

One user posted on X, "Yes, she nailed it. Spot on!" Another, while not necessarily a Clinton supporter, acknowledged her expertise in international relations, commenting, "I'm no Clinton fan, but she is well-versed in international relations and should get credit for it. She is spot on. Yes, it's more complex, but she was speaking to the masses and summed it up nicely."

Several other users also shared their agreement, with one person adding, "Of course she was, Hillary lived and breathed politics; she loves it! She was right about everything."

Another user quipped, "The email lady was damn right damn often in the last few years."

However, it's important to note that the situation in Gaza is multifaceted and involves numerous geopolitical, historical, and humanitarian complexities. While Clinton's statement encapsulated the basic premise of the situation, the actual circumstances are more nuanced.

Deepening humanitarian crisis

As the Israel-Palestine conflict continues to escalate, there are grave concerns regarding the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have recently announced that they will not allow fuel to enter the enclave, claiming that Hamas could potentially use it for operational infrastructure.

This stance contradicts earlier statements from the IDF chief of staff, who had mentioned efforts to provide access to fuel in Gaza but insisted that the IDF would not allow the fuel to reach Hamas.

Meanwhile, US military advisers are urging the Israeli government to avoid an all-out ground assault in Gaza. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had suggested that a ground offensive was still on the table, stating, "We stand before the next stage, it is coming."

Israel has made it clear that they aim to eliminate Hamas, the Palestinian millitant group that controls Gaza, in response to their attacks on October 7.

According to CNN, one aid agency said that at least 2,000 children have been killed in Gaza over 17 days. They were reportedly among the more than 5,700 casualties in the Israeli bombardment, per Palestinian health officials.
