Time to get your boxes of tissues out guys as Disney +'s 'High School Musical: The Musical: The Series' Season 1 is coming to an end. On Friday, the streaming giant released Episode 9 of the series titled, 'Opening Night'. While for the past weeks, we saw the students go through their own personal drama off stage, this week, they came together set to perform the play onstage.

We know that Gina, who was supposed to play the role of Taylor on stage, couldn't make it last minute because her mum had gotten a transfer to the East Coast. Ricky and Nini almost kissed, while the rest of the cast members and Miss Jenn, prepare for the play. Back again this week for the penultimate episode of the season, after months of rehearsing, the students are all geared up for the most unforgettable opening night of the play.

Miss Jenn, Ricky, and Nini get pre-show jitters, but Miss Jenn convinces the other two that they had nothing to worry about and the show must go on. Now that Gina is gone, Miss Jenn requests, Nini's best friend Kourtney to step in and play the role of Taylor. But she is nervous because she had little to no time left to practice her lines and learn Gina's tough dance moves.

While the show is off to a rough start, Mr Mazzara agrees to step in and help Miss Jenn out during the opening night. Things go off smoothly, and right when it was time for the students to go on stage and perform 'Status Quo', Kourtney's nerves get the best of her, making her lose the little confidence she had. Right in time, Gina walks in surprising everyone. Kourtney immediately tells Gina to take back her part of playing Taylor.

Though everything seems to be going well, during the song 'Get Your Head in the Game' that is performed by the basketball team, Ricky sees his mother in the audience but this time with her boyfriend. This shakes him terribly and he requests, EJ to take up the part of Troy and continue the show. Meanwhile, Nini notices a drama scout in the audience, and Kourtney revealed that she was the one who called her for the opening night.

While the play goes on an intermission, EJ gears up to play Troy, and that's where the episode comes to an end, in a cliffhanger, not knowing how part 2 will turn out to be. Though the curiosity of what might happen in part 2 is a constant amongst the fans, they are quite upset about Ricky's mother bringing her boyfriend for the opening night even though she knew Ricky was still getting used to the recent divorce of his parents.

Taking to Twitter a fan shared, "Ricky’s mom just be ruining shit omfg but the queen Gina is back and we got a shirtless scene of Ricky so maybe we won #HSMTMTS." Adding to that another shared, "RICKY’S MOM IS INCONSIDERATE 2K20 #HSMTMTS."

"So is anyone Idk....majorly annoyed with Ricky's mom rn? Emotions are already running high from the show nearly being cancelled and just opening night stress in general, and it's already been established that (1/2) #HSMTMTS," a fan wrote.

While another shared, "What the heck is wrong with Ricky's mom? She decides opening night is the best time to introduce Ricky to her new boyfriend? Unbelievable!." Adding to that another fan wrote, "Seeing ricky so shaken up because of his mom was so sad SHE HAS NO RIGHTS."

Next week when 'High School Musical: The Musical: The Series' comes back to Disney + it will be for the season finale, and we cannot wait to see what it holds for us. Apart from that another major stand out during the episode was Ryan's performance as Sharpay during the 'Status Quo' blew the roof off. He sure did justice to Sharpay's role that was played by Ashley Tisdale in the original Musical.
