Herman Cain death: Liberals slammed for labeling Republican 'covidiot' as he attended Trump's rally maskless
Soon after former Republican presidential candidate, Herman Cain died from the coronavirus at the age of 74, on Thursday, July 30, following his attendance in the highly criticized Trump's rally in Tulsa without a mask on June 20, Twitter was split between the liberals who suggested that Cain invited his own peril by choosing to not follow CDC guidelines for the virus outbreak and the conservatives who condemned the left for being disrespectful toward the deceased
The news of his death was broken on Thursday, July 30, by Newsmax, a conservative media company he had recently joined. He had been critically ill for several weeks and had been admitted to an Atlanta-area hospital. He was being treated for Covid-19 since July 1. He was diagnosed positive with the virus just ten days after Cain had attended a rally for Trump in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Two days after testing positive, he was hospitalized.
Although it cannot be said for sure where Cain contracted the virus since the chair of Black Voices for Trump had a hectic travel schedule in June, stopping in multiple cities, the POTUS was heavily criticized for holding the rally last month after eight members of the advance team tested positive for the coronavirus and the campaign staff had to self-isolate afterward to be extra cautious of possible infection.
On social media, people were quick to point the finger at the president and blaming Cain for attending his rally. "Herman Cain’s death was preventable. With his crusade against science, Trump has led the GOP towards deadly policy that's killing even his most loyal footsoldiers. 150,000 people are now needlessly dead. Every one was loved. This must be a moment of reflection for Republicans," tweeted the official page for Women's March.
Journalist Michael Tracey wrote: "It's highly plausible that Herman Cain contracted Covid-19 at the Trump Tulsa rally, given the timeline and the fact that many attendees later tested positive. That rally was one of the politically stupidest things Trump has ever done. Hence the subsequent demotion of Brad Parscale." Ebola expert Dr. Dena Grayson also chimed in, saying, "Herman Cain just DIED from #coronavirus that he reportedly caught while attending Trump's #Tulsa rally WITHOUT a mask. Yet here are more #COVIDIOTS waiting to attend Pence's event *without a mask*."
There were also others who were angry at Cain. "Wouldn't it be amazing if just one conservative came forward and said Herman Cain attending the Tulsa rally wasn't a good idea and cost him his life," one wrote, while another said, "I’m not celebrating. And neither are the other people who point out how grossly irresponsible Herman Cain was. It’s anger. We have a right to be angry. It’s a fact that he encouraged endangering our lives. I wonder how many people he infected while being too cool for the hype?"
A third said: "This is really sad, the ones that fail to recognize trump is a demon & it’s dragging them into their grave, one by one. Former Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain died from the coronavirus, After attending trump’s Oklahoma rally without wearing a mask." And a fourth said: "#HermanCain died of terminal case of stupid. I feel bad for his victims who he infected (and infect them, he did). I have no pity, no sorrow for him. I would spit on his grave if I ever walked by it. I don't give a crap what a great guy he was."
However, there were those who voiced out the fact that talking ill of the dead was not okay. "Question for the people cheering the death of a prominent black man like Herman Cain - do you even know how you look right now?" wrote alt-right political activist and conspiracy theorist Jack Posobiec. Another user tweeted: "#HermanCain has not even been laid to rest and another idiot taking the opportunity to trash him and others. The #MaskShaming is beyond ridiculous. #CopsforTrump" A third said: "The classless tweets I’m seeing about Herman Cain’s death are terrible. If Cain has been an 'austere religious scholar' and not a Trump supporter, I’m sure the Left would show far more respect."
At the time Cain had tweeted a photo of himself in the stands of the rally with the words: ''Here’s just a few of the #BlackVoicesForTrump at tonight’s rally! Having a fantastic time!'' Despite being a cancer survivor as well as in the high-risk group for the virus because of his age, he was seen not wearing a mask during the event nor following social distancing protocols in the photo.
