Here's why Joey Batey hates ‘The Witcher’ song 'Toss a Coin to Your Witcher': ‘Never want to hear it’
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: In a shocking twist, British singer Joey Batey said he hates a famous song from the Netflix series 'The Witcher'. The fan-favorite called 'Toss a Coin to your Witcher' was sung by Batey himself and was loved by all on its release.
Batey's character, the bard Jaskier, sang the song in the first season and it became an instant hit not just among fans of the series, and also ended up on the music charts. Batey, however, never wants to hear this song again, despite being the singer of it.
'I never want to hear it ever again'
In an interview with LADBIBLE, Batey revealed his disdain for the hit song. "Yeah, I wish that I could be political about this, but I do hate it now," the actor said, "I could pretend that I don’t. I never want to hear it ever again, somebody had it as their ringtone the other day and I started twitching."
Batey doesn't seem to have another reason to hate the song apart from the huge amount of times he has had to sing and hear it on the set as well as off the set. "I think it might be a wee while before I listen to it myself again," he shared.
However, while he hates listening to the song himself, he is not entirely opposed to it. Batey understands that the fans of the show and Jaskier have an emotional attachment to the song which acknowledged the efforts of a witcher beyond respect. He said, “There are people who still sing it to me in Sainsbury’s, and when that happens it is good.”
Different styles of songs following Season 1
Luckily for Batey, he was able to sing new music after the craze for 'Toss a Coin to your Witcher' died down. A professional singer and instrument player, Batey was also able to contribute to the songwriting and composition of the music for the second season of 'The Witcher'. He added the song 'Burn Butcher Burn' to the compelling soundtrack of the Netflix series.
The soundtrack changed with the second season as the songs shifted to a more narrative-heavy style as compared to 'Toss your Coin'. This is a rather appropriate style for bards who were known for telling stories through their music in medieval times, much before writing became the medium of communication.
The Season 3 of the Netflix series 'The Witcher will be available for streaming from June 29, 2023.
