The darkness is never-ending in Hulu-Marvel's latest offering 'Helstrom'. Estranged siblings Daimon (Tom Austen) and Ana (Sydney Lemmon) reunite, as things seem to be spiralling out of their control. Nevertheless, before they handle the demonic entities that are sweeping the world, they need to come to terms with their own horrific and traumatic pasts.

Daimon and Ana are the offsprings of a mysterious serial killer who abused their mother into insanity and kidnapped Ana as a child. This road trip resulted in some horrific revelations for Ana, which she hasn't quite explained what, in this episode yet although we know that she is unintentionally responsible for releasing a form of demonic darkness into the world.

Gabriella, a nun-in-training and colleague to Daimon, raises a question: Considering their parentage, what is the guarantee that the siblings don't possess the same dark and monstrous genes as their father? In Episode 4, the show raises a doubt on Daimon and Ana or rather Ana's morals specifically. They go to San Francisco, to track down the mysterious skull that has been in hers and Yen's possession, only to find that Yen is missing with the skull, after killing a man.

Daimon is appalled to know that Ana is okay with this and is worried that she might have some of the darkness that their father left behind. He worries that she gets a sense of satisfaction from doing this and it is not for justice. At first it seems so, till she explains that she kills people who are known for horrific crimes and only when she is absolutely sure of their crimes.

She weakly says that she isn't her father and is far from it, rather she's been trying to get away from his shadow and his acts, her whole life. She says she puts an end to the people who spread pain. This conversation strengthens the bond between the two siblings, and they finally understand each other.

At the end of the episode, Ana returns home to save Daimon from being attacked by a student, who has been possessed by the dark entities. In the next episode, we learn that the two siblings were able to fight off their father's possession, more than their mother, who is almost dying with the effort of dying so.

'Helstrom' is streaming on Hulu.
