MANHATTAN, NEW YORK: The mothers of two teenage girls have launched a GoFundMe to start a new life outside New York City after their daughters went missing for days. Now that the 13-year-old Heaven-Monroe Curras and 15-year-old Jazzymae Rivera are back home safe, their mothers do not want to continue living in the city.

As per reports, both girls were living at Jazzymae’s home in the Bronx as the younger one’s mother had to go to work as an emergency room nurse. But on December 27, they suddenly disappeared. At the time, Heaven’s mother, Delilah Arocho, had shared that she was worried for her daughter as lately, she began acting rebellious and not following instructions, especially when she’s with her elder cousin.

But Arocho’s sister Tabatha Rivera had an answer for that as she told PIX11 News, “I live around a lot of drugs, I live around a lot of violence, I live around a lot of gangs. Obviously, my daughter is a product of my environment.” The two mothers had also shared disturbing details of their daughters’ social media activities as Arocho said, “I have pictures of her friends, walking around with guns. I have pictures of her smoking blunts. I have pictures of her throwing up gang signs.”

Tabatha then went on to mention her concern as she thought her daughter was taking alcohol “with the gang members around her saying ‘Gangsta, gangsta, this is how we do it, gangsta,’ and my daughter’s laid out on the floor.” Besides, Heaven’s mother asserted that they were apparently not getting any help from cops as they just instructed them to obtain “PINS” warrants on the teenagers. “PINS stands for person in need of supervision. It’s basically a warrant for children,” Arocho told PIX11 News, while also sharing details of her struggles as a single mother.

She added, “I’ve been a nurse for 10 years, started as an LPN, all while I had Heaven. The time that I went to school and the time that I’m working, I could have spent more time with her. But I had a responsibility.”

The women had earlier disclosed that the two teens were emotionally disturbed after they lost their 14-year-old cousin, Jacob, to a shooting in August 2022. But Jazzymae also had a stern warning for her daughter as she stated at the time, “The games are finished, you’re on the news, you’re on Instagram. This has everything to do with you, Jazzymae.  Because if you come home, Heaven will come home.”

Now, the fundraiser initiated by Arocho says, “They have safely returned but the fight has just begun. Since Heaven was born, I worked tirelessly to get my Registered Nursing License and Degrees in hopes to get me and my family out of the community we have been facing all our lives.”

It explained, “My sister lives in Hunts Point in the Bronx and our daughters are becoming the product of our environment. I work so much but it is only me and my sister needs this help as soon as possible. Please Help us save our girls by providing funds to use to move our family into a safe community most definitely out of New York City. This is the first time I ever asked for this help, and I will put my pride aside because this is something important.”

“These girls mean so much to us, my sister is struggling, and the process for me is something that can’t happen fast enough. I need to do this for my family, or we would be another statistic and I worked too hard that to ever happen to us. Please help if you can, we are fighting to keep our girls and family alive,” the mother added.
