'Watchmen' premiere plays coy about Jeremy Irons' Lord of the Manor, reveals newspaper article about Adrian Veidt's death

A newspaper's top story is the death of Adrian Veidt, the man who 30 years ago helped world leaders come together against the Cold War. A master manipulator, if we were to believe Jeremy Irons plays the role of Veidt, then he is currently enjoying life as "Lord of the Manor" and definitely not dead

In episode 1 of 'Watchmen', HBO's latest offering, we see the universe of one of the most loved comics recreated, but the lives that are being led are not ones we are familiar with. At least, not most of them.

So, in one of the scenes, when we see Angela Abar (Regina King) walk towards her unopened bakery, at the back of which she transforms into Sister Night, we see an old man reading a newspaper. The newspaper's top story is a confirmation of the death of one Adrian Veidt, the man who 30 years ago helped world leaders come together against the Cold War.

Usually, something like this may not catch our attention, but here's the thing. Adrian Veidt is none other than the great Ozymandias. A master manipulator, if we were to believe that Jeremy Irons plays the role of Veidt, then he is currently enjoying life as "Lord of the Manor" and has definitely not kicked the bucket.

So why has his death been announced? Is this part of Veidt's plan for the future? That's another thing we cannot be certain of, considering the latest promo video that was released October 20. After a reference to a play that the Lord of the Manor is writing called 'Watchmaker's Son', in the promo we see the character make elaborate plans for the future.

For now, it is not certain if the Lord of the Manor is Veidt as was speculated, or if he is in some way related to one of the original members of the Watchmen. This man is planning on building a device that is more powerful than any atomic device.

From the looks of it, he may be trying to build something equivalent to a time machine, or a space machine. This weapon, he believes will give him the necessary powers to find a solution to the problem of extinction.

It is clear this man wants to live beyond destined years and in an attempt to do so, he also comes to the conclusion that mankind is ready for change. What is this man's connection to Veidt?

With this elaborate plan in play, the news article announcing Veidt's death takes on a completely different meaning. Hopefully, this will be something that will be explored further in the upcoming episodes and it wasn't just a tease as to the kind of news people in Angela's world have access to.

The next episode of 'Watchmen' will air on Sunday at 9 p.m. ET on HBO.
