LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: In a rather bold move by Paramount+, they decided to reboot an 80s classic and turn it into a series. Yes, of course, we are talking about ‘Fatal Attraction’ because that’s all anyone can talk about lately, and rightfully so. The discourse about whether or not classics should be rebooted in this day and age will continue for years to come because it looks like people are running out of original ideas. As of now, two episodes of ‘Fatal Attraction’ are officially out and everyone has mixed feelings about it.

While the internet is talking about the infamous bunny, the tame sex scene, or the blandness of it all, the one thing that really stands out is how people are reacting to the casting of ‘Fatal Attraction'. Joshua Jackson, Lizzy Caplan, and Amanda Peet have taken over the roles of Michael Douglas, Glenn Close, and Anne Archer, which is a huge undertaking in itself, and fans have some thoughts about it!

Dan Gallagher put on the stand in 'Fatal Attraction' Episode 1 for a heinous crime against Alex Forrest

How have the performances in ‘Fatal Attraction’ been so far?

The first two episodes of ‘Fatal Attraction’ have definitely garnered a lot of attention from viewers, for different reasons. These episodes have established the different characters, but the focus remains on Jackson and Caplan, who play the infamous roles of Dan Gallagher and Alex Forrest. So far, the performances have been barely above-average, and it’s almost a little confusing because you can’t pinpoint whether it’s the writing, the acting, or just the benchmark that has previously been set. Nevertheless, the fans are conflicted.

'Is it just me, or is the casting terrible'

If you are a fan of the original movie, then there is a high possibility that you might be disappointed with ‘Fatal Attraction’ and its casting right now. One fan on Twitter said, “Is it just me, or is the casting terrible for the new reimagining of #FatalAttraction on @paramountplus? This series had so much potential & the poor casting ruined it!” Not sure how Caplan or Jackson will feel about that, but it’s only the tip of the iceberg as another fan writes, “I am so distracted by Joshua Jackson’s hair in this new show!! #FatalAttraction.” And they are definitely not complementing his hairdo! Looks like only Douglas can pull off that classic Dan hair. The focus continues to stay on Jackson as one fan writes, "#FatalAttraction 2023 is more proof that remakes don’t need to keep being made. It lacks the spark and electricity of the movie. Jackson is a miscast, in my opinion. I am only on episode 2, so I suppose there is a chance it will get better.”

Now while some people are hating the hair and the acting, there are others who are thrilled with the casting, or at least look like they can make do with it for the rest of the series. One fan on Twitter writes, “Lizzy Caplan played the role of the obsessive and unhinged mistress so brilliantly in #FatalAttraction - is anyone else seeing this series?” You bet we are! The compliments don’t just stop there as a fan says, "Stayed up way too late to watch the new #FatalAttraction series and hooooo boy was that 100% worth it. The writing is stellar. The cast is fantastic. The vibe is sexy and ominous. Love love love it! Can’t wait for the next episode!” And after a lot of criticism thrown at Caplan and Joshua, one fan wrote, “Both Lizzy Caplan and Joshua Jackson are amazing in #FatalAttraction!!! Can't wait for more episodes! @VancityJax.” Fans really are going through a range of emotions while watching ‘Fatal Attraction'.
