Princess Eugenie did not take it well when Meghan Markle and Prince Harry revealed they were expecting their first child together on the day of her wedding, according to a new book. In fact, it was almost like a betrayal.

Meghan, 39, and Harry, 35, allegedly told people about the big news on Eugenie’s big day, according to Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand, authors of 'Finding Freedom'. “It didn’t go down particularly well with Eugenie, who, a source said, told friends she felt the couple should have waited to share the news,” the book reads, Us Weekly reported. Eugenie, 30, tied the knot with Jack Brooksbank in October 2018 at the St George’s Chapel in Windsor, United Kingdom. Meghan and Harry publicized their baby news three days after the wedding via Kensington Palace’s Instagram page. Meghan became pregnant with son Archie, just five months after she wed Harry.

'Finding Freedom' also touches on Harry's relationship with his cousin. Princess Eugenie and Prince Harry have always shared a unique bond, per the book. "Eugenie had always been more than just a cousin to Harry. They were also the closest of friends," according to the book. "Out of all the Queen's grandchildren, Harry and Eugenie have one of the most natural connections. Like Harry, Eugenie is loyal, honest, and great fun. The two had many nights out together in London."

"Harry had always confided in his cousin when it came to the women in his life," they added. "Not only did he trust her implicitly, but friends say that she gives great advice and has always been 'beyond wise' for her years." In fact, Eugenie welcomed Meghan with open arms when the pair went public with their relationship. Being one of the first to find out, she reportedly "told friends she loved Meghan" and thought she was "just the tonic" for Harry.

The princess had "long wanted to see her cousin settle down and be happy," according to the book. The book also shares a glimpse into the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's rocky dynamic with royal life, expanding on various topics including Meghan's royal training and her secret engagement with Harry.

A spokesperson told Us Weekly the book is solely “based on the authors’ own experiences as members of the royal press corps". However, a source told the outlet that Prince William had a different take on it. “William thinks the book is their calculated way of controlling the narrative and that they took advantage of their entertainment contacts so they’d be painted in a favorable light,” an insider told Us Weekly.

During a recent appearance on Good Morning America, Scobie said he and Durand conducted 100 interviews with "those who know Harry and Meghan best, close friends and even Buckingham Palace aides," and denied claims Harry and Meghan were directly involved with the book. “The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were not interviewed and did not contribute to 'Finding Freedom'," a spokesperson for the couple said in a statement. "This book is based on the authors’ own experiences as members of the royal press corps and their own independent reporting."
