AMAs 2020: Harry Styles' Favorite Pop/Rock Album win not broadcast, angry fans call it 'harryphobic'

Harry Styles’ album ‘Fine Line’ was pitted against Taylor Swift and The Weeknd for ‘Folkore’ and ‘After Hours’ respectively

Harry Styles, who has been on top of his game in 2020 and even scored his very first number-one song on the Billboard Hot 100 chart with ‘Watermelon Sugar,’ took home the award for Favorite Album – Pop/Rock for his record ‘Fine Line’ at the 48th edition of the American Music Awards (AMAs) held on Sunday, November 22, 2020.

Harry Styles’ album ‘Fine Line’ was pitted against Taylor Swift and The Weeknd for their albums ‘Folkore’ and ‘After Hours’ respectively. The British singer-songwriter was only nominated in one category and he bagged the award in the same. Apart from ‘Watermelon Sugar,’ the album also includes his other hit single – ‘Golden.’ This was also Harry’s first AMAs win as a solo artist. The social media erupted with joy after Harry was announced as the winner. However, some were also disappointed and furious as his win was not broadcast.

One user said, “waa he deserved this so much. this album is truly a masterpiece and i couldn’t be more proud of him.” Another said, “Congrats Harry. I love seeing Beliebers cry. It’s my daily medicine, my weekly energy, my monthly inspiration and my yearly motivation. Their loss is the only reason i’m still alive, I was born to love and enjoy the failure that they have achieved.” Another added, “it's the least you could do after ignoring him and just using him to get your awards more audience” One asserted, “Deserved it but how about you actually announce it during the award show?? Bye. WE WON HARRIESSSS.” One tweeted, “HE DESERVES MORE THAN TO BE ANNOUNCED THROUGH LETTERS ON A SCREEN AT THE END GOING FAST.” Another posted, “harry?? won?? but?? it?? wasnt?? announced?? wtf?? i mean good job baby but this is harryphobic.”

The world’s largest fan-voted show, American Music Awards 2020, was hosted by Taraji P Henson from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. This year’s ceremony also featured several new categories, including new rap and hip-hop honors along with several new awards for Latin music.

Kristin Cavallari, Ciara, Christian Serratos, David Dobrik, Laverne Cox, Derek Hough, Paris Hilton, Tayshia Adams and Anthony Anderson were the presenters of the evening. Global musicians like Jennifer Lopez and Maluma, Katy Perry, Justin Bieber, Bad Bunny, Bebe Rexha with Doja Cat, Bell Biv DeVoe, BTS, Dan + Shay, Dua Lipa, Lewis Capaldi, Lil Baby, Lil Nas X, Nelly, Shawn Mendes and The Weeknd with Kenny G were listed as performers at AMAs 2020.
