Harry and Meghan will be LA's most famous residents, on the same level as Oprah Winfrey, claims expert
Although Los Angeles is scattered with some of Hollywood's most famous A-list celebrities, experts of the entertainment world have opined that Harry and Meghan Markle will be the new "it" couple of the town after relocating from Canada to the United States last month.
Melanie Bromley, chief news correspondent and head of news operations for E!, told the Guardian that there will surely be no dearth of offers for them to score appearances at high profile events.
"Ultimately, this is a city where royalty trumps celebrity. They are potentially the most famous residents of Los Angeles. Or at least they’re on the same level as Oprah (Winfrey), as that kind of celebrity, AAA list," she said.
She added that the couple’s move to California isn’t much of a shock since the Duchess of Sussex was raised in LA's Woodland Hills and her mother, Doria, still lives in the city and hence will now be able to come over frequently and help out with their son, Archie.
"As much as they both have — Meghan especially — some roots in Canada, LA is her home," she said. "It is where she grew up, it’s the place that she knows best, and so it isn’t a surprise that they’re here. I think what has surprised people is just the fact that they came here so quickly”.
It has also been debated if Meghan's move had something to do with her reported desire to return to the world of acting. Her first job after exiting the Royal Family was the voiceover for Disneynature documentary ‘Elephant,' which was met with mixed reviews.
Meanwhile, the couple already has a number of offers from big names in the industry. Ted Sarandos, Netflix chief content officer, has said that he was interested in working with Meghan and Harry. The couple was also invited by Al Jean, The Simpsons showrunner and executive producer, to make an appearance on the show. Prince Harry has announced a project with Oprah Winfrey on mental health for Apple TV+.
The former royal couple was also planning to rebrand post-Megxit and launch their non-profit organization in the upcoming months but the schedule has presently been pushed back due to the growing threat of the coronavirus pandemic across the world.
"As we can all feel, the world at this moment seems extraordinarily fragile. Yet we are confident that every human being has the potential and opportunity to make a difference—as seen now across the globe, in our families, our communities and those on the front line —together we can lift each other up to realize the fullness of that promise," the last post on their @SussexRoyal Instagram account said before they signed off.
It added: "What’s most important right now is the health and wellbeing of everyone across the globe and finding solutions for the many issues that have presented themselves as a result of this pandemic. As we all find the part we are to play in this global shift and changing of habits, we are focusing this new chapter to understand how we can best contribute."
A spokesperson for the couple said: “The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will spend the next few months on their family and continuing to do what they can safely and privately, to support and work with their pre-existing charitable commitments while developing their future non-profit organization.”
