'Harley Quinn': The president's file on Harley is filled with Easter eggs listing all her greatest hits
Spoilers for 'Harley Quinn' Season 2 Episode 8 - Inner (Para) Demons
Every good comic fan knows that if there's a piece of paper with writing on it that's only briefly featured, it's worth pausing to get a better look at it. Comics shows love their Easter eggs and the latest episode of 'Harley Quinn' contains a blink-and-you'll miss it reference to some of Harley Quinn's greatest hits. As the president of the United States (Andy Daly) talks to Jim Gordon (Chris Meloni) about the threat that Harley Quinn (Kaley Cuoco) poses to New New Gotham and he is handed a file on her. The first line of this Top Secret file reads: "This is a summary of information obtained by [REDACTED] from a review of all references to the subject of Harley Quinn."
It's a hilariously meta line, as the document does indeed contain nothing but Harley Quinn references - the entire document is comprised of nothing but names of episodes from 'Batman: The Animated Series' and 'The New Batman Adventures' - where Harley made her debut. Even the file number is a reference: 09111992, or read as a date, September 11, 1992 - the date that Harley's first appearance hit the airwaves. The entire document, with the names of episodes featuring Harley represented in bold, reads as follows:
"This is a summary of information obtained by [REDACTED] from a review of all references to the subject of Harley Quinn. [REDACTED] [REDACTED] the intent from [REDACTED] with [REDACTED] over the edge. Along with [REDACTED], the mad love shown [REDACTED] to be in Joker's favor. [REDACTED] during a girl's night out, [REDACTED] [REDACTED] with the laughing fish, [REDACTED] on Harley's holiday to [REDACTED] [REDACTED] along with [REDACTED] and Poison Ivy. [REDACTED] recommends lock up at [REDACTED]. The incident involving [REDACTED] with Harlequinade, along with the disappearance of Joker's millions, [REDACTED] during the holiday Knights incident. [REDACTED] [REDACTED] with the purpose of [REDACTED] and "almost got 'im" before the Suicide Squad project."
It's a wonderful homage to the history of Harley Quinn and it's fitting that it's seen in a file describing her exploits as a supervillain. 'Harley Quinn' has crammed in a fairly steady amount of Easter eggs for a comics-based TV show, but this one may have just taken the cake.
The next episode of 'Harley Quinn' airs May 29 at 9 am ET, on DC Universe.
