Hannah Tubbs: Outrage as trans child molester gets just 2 years for assaulting 10-year-old

Judge Mario Barrera slammed Los Angeles County DA George Gascon while giving out the verdict

LOS ANGELES COUNTY, CALIFORNIA: A transgender woman convicted of sexually assaulting a ten-year-old girl as a juvenile has been awarded just two years behind bars because Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascon declined to prosecute her as an adult. In 2020, Hannah Tubbs had pleaded guilty to molesting the victim inside the bathroom of a Denny's in 2014. At the time, she was 17 and known as James.

Prosecutors wanted her to be tried as an adult and send her to a Los Angeles County Jail but Gascon refused to do it because of her age at the time of the crime. The DA also believed that the 26-year-old felon can be victimized inside adult jail because of her gender identity and wanted home confinement for her.

But Judge Mario Barrera has now slammed Gascon. He said he has been left with no option but to give a simple sentence in a juvenile detention center to Tubbs that also included not having to register as a sex offender. Barrera stated on Thursday, January 27, as reported by The Daily Mail, “I want to be clear. The filing of a transfer motion is entirely within the discretion of the district attorney. Because of George Gascon's blanket policy against transferring any juvenile to adult court, even if the 17-year-old rapes or murders an innocent child, James [now Hannah] Tubbs will not have to register as a sex offender, will not spend any time in county jail or state prison, will be 26 and housed with juveniles for a very short period of time, and will be released with no probation or parole monitoring.”

The decision has since received a lot of backlash. Deputy District Attorney Shea Sanna said, “You have a violent sexual predator sentenced to two years in a juvenile facility. It doesn't change the fact that the public is safer, but we just preferred Tubbs to be with other adults and not prey on others.”

LA Deputy District Attorney Jon Hatami also noted: “Tubbs is 26 years old. Unlike George Gascon's false narrative, she is not a 'kid’. There was evidence presented at the juvenile proceedings which showed that Tubbs sexually assaulted two young girls in different incidents in the past. The child victims will suffer lifelong trauma. Tubbs also has prior violent convictions and conduct as an adult,” before adding: “'The victims will get no justice. The public will get no safety. It's an injustice against all of us, especially the young victims.”

People on the internet also reacted to the light sentence. A user tweeted, “Have no words …. May the Lord have mercy on us and this country, cannot fathom the pain this child’s parents and grandparents are experiencing. Sigh…. I am truly tired of the evil that has taken control, believe it is time to dust off my boots and walk in protest.” Another user commented, “Wow! How would the victim and her parents feel right now? Sounds also like the defendant has had plenty of practice manipulating loop holes.” “This is freaking insane. A 26 yr who has multiple pedo events get housed in a kid jail. Then on top of that doesn't have to register as a sex offender. If this doesn't wake up America nothing will. California is a complete waste. No wonder everyone is leaving, minus the homeless,” the third one added.
