'Hamilton': Fans weigh in on Phillipa Soo's Eliza and her relationship with Alexander, say 'he never deserved her'
Alexander Hamilton's widow, Eliza, played by Phillipa Soo was one of the characters that had Twitterati in tears when the hit Broadway musical, 'Hamilton' premiered on Disney+. It wasn't just the critics who praised Soo's performance but even fans who termed her portrayal "scintillating" and "truly masterful". Much of her storyline including the famous gasp scene was discussed by fans on Twitter and the chemistry she shared with Alexander.
"Alexander is such an ass how could he cheat on Eliza he DESERVED to be shot by burr," a fan said. "That shot during the duel where Eliza walks off and we see Burr with the gun aiming at Hamilton is... *chef's kiss*. I can't get over how perfect and intense that is," a fan noted. "Alexander truly did not deserve Eliza," a fan wrote.
"Okay: someone please explain Eliza's gasp to me at the very end. Only thing I still can't comprehend. #hamilfilm" a fan wrote. "That scream Eliza let out WRECKED ME," said a fan. "I've heard a few theories about the "gasp" at the end. I think Eliza gasps bc she sees Phillip (on the other side) #Hamilfilmm," a fan wrote. "Never doubt Eliza is the hero of #Hamilton I don't hold a lot of pride in the part of my family that goes back to the revolutionary war, but I am very proud to have the Schuyler Sisters in my bloodline," a tweet read.
"At least my dear Eliza's wife, at least I keep his eyes in my life." TEARS. EVERY DAMN TIME" a fan said. "That ending will never not make me cry. Eliza is the T Rex of #hamilton#hamiltonwatchparty," one of the fans opined. "EVERYONE FEELS ELIZA’S PAIN WHEN SHE SCREAMS. THAT HITS SO HARD #HamilFilm," a fan reaction noted. "It’s Quiet Uptown is incredible lyrically. It gives me chills when Hamilton starts echoing everything Eliza has said to him in Act One. Brings the tears every time," a fan said.
"Eliza's the true hero of Hamilton. Seriously. Who tells your story? ELIZA... "I put myself back into the narrative" #hamilton #hamilfilm," a fan tweeted. "You know in real life Eliza dealt with a son and husband died, a daughter having mental issues and she still managed to fight and leave an amazing legacy. As problematic as her husband was, she did amazing things #Hamilfilm," noted one of the fans.
"Just finished Hamilton, so good. So full of amazing performances. I had read about @ChrisisSingin bowing his head during the finale when Eliza speaks out against slavery, but the look he gives as Washington, such self-disgust and heartbreak blew me away. Had never seen it clearly," a fan wrote.
