'Hamilton' star Miguel Cervantes devastated as 3-year-old daughter dies following battle with epilepsy: 'Her bed is empty'
'Hamilton' actor Miguel Cervantes’ wife shared a heartbreaking post following their 3-year-old daughter Adelaide's death on Saturday, October 12, after entering hospice care last week. Her death came just days before her fourth birthday.
When Adelaide was just seven months old, she experienced her first seizure which, according to the doctors, was the result of epilepsy. Since then, she had been battling with seizures for almost the entirety of her life. At nine months of age, Adelaide was diagnosed with Infantile Spasms (IS).
Her short life, every bit of which was documented in her mother Kelly's blog 'Inchstones' came to an end on Saturday. Kelly also worked with the Citizens United for Research in Epilepsy (CURE), an organization that raises funds for researching the devastating illness. A day after her death, Kelly posted a black and white photo of their late daughter’s bedroom filled with stuffed animals.
“The machines are off,” she captioned the photo. “Her bed is empty. The quiet is deafening. Miss Adelaide Grace left us early Saturday morning. She went peacefully in my arms and surrounded by love. Finally, she is free from pain, reactions and seizures but leaves our hearts shattered. We love you so much Adelaide bug and forever after.”
The 'Hamilton' star, 42, and his wife, 37, released a joint statement after confirming to People magazine that their daughter had passed away: “The Cervantes family is heartbroken to announce that their baby girl Adelaide Grace passed away early Saturday morning,” they said. “She was held in the loving arms of her family as she peacefully achieves the ‘calm’ for which they’ve been searching for so long. They would like to extend their deepest, heartfelt gratitude to all who have reached out with words of support and prayer and will continue to feel all the love as they go through this difficult time.”
