Karen Gillan's Nebula is easily one of the most popular characters to come out of James Gunn's 2014 Marvel Cinematic Universe movie 'Guardians of the Galaxy'. Her relationship with her sister Gamora (Zoe Saldana), her growth from being a cyborg assassin to a Guardian and an Avenger, these are all things that have made her extremely appealing to the audience.

Apparently, that redemption arc is exactly why James Gunn loves the character so much as well. While rewatching the movie for Comic Book's #QuarantineWatchParty, Gunn tweeted about how Gillan was hired for the role and revealed that his greatest weakness is a good redemption arc.

"When I hired @karengillan I told her, her role in this movie wasn’t that big but if everything went according to plan she’d become a Guardian," Gunn wrote on Twitter. "Seeing how evil she is here it’s hard to believe her huge turn! I’m a complete sucker for redemption arcs."

We're honestly not that surprised the James Gunn likes redemption stories because the 'Guardians' movies are full of them, from Gamora and Nebula to the beloved space Mary Poppins, Yondu Udonta (Michael Rooker). Anyway, Karen Gillan responded to the tweet, calling the chat with Gunn one of her "favorite meetings ever".

"One of my favorite meetings ever was meeting you for the role and getting to see the whole movie on walls because you’d storyboarded the hell out of it!!" Gillan tweeted.

Stephane Ceretti, who was the visual effects supervisor for the first 'Guardians' movie (as well as 'Doctor Strange' and 'Ant-Man and the Wasp'), also chimed in talking about Gillan's audition for the role and how it made him cry.

"I’ll always remember her audition... she made me cry!" Ceretti declared. "I think it was a scene between her and Gamora, the sisters. And it was very emotional."

Gillan will be returning to the role in 'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3', which is expected to see the return of the past version of Gamora who appeared in 'Avengers: Endgame'. The movie will also feature returning stars Chris Pratt, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Dave Bautista, Pom Klementieff, and Sean Gunn.

'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3' doesn't have an official release date yet.
