'Grey’s Anatomy' spin-off: Owen Hunt’s move to Pac North in season 16 may be paving the way for a new series

Owen Hunt's storyline took a surprising turn as the doctor will now be working in Pac North, where Alex Karev and Richard Webber work.
UPDATED OCT 23, 2019

Pac North is now becoming a prominent name on the long-running ABC drama, 'Grey’s Anatomy'. Not only do Alex Karev and Richard Webber work there now (after being fired by Miranda Bailey),  but Alex managed to rope in Owen Hunt as well and lure him away from Grey-Sloan memorial hospital, which has been the center of all the action and drama for years. Owen Hunt has practically been a permanent fixture at Grey-Sloan, and his storyline arcs with Christina Yang to Amelia Shephard and finally Teddy who has always managed to be at the heart of the show.  Owen and Teddy now have a baby, yay for that.

Recently, Owen had decided to stay home for his new baby while his partner Teddy Altman (Kim Ravers) could return to work. Of course,  we knew that wasn’t going to happen, as people seem to naturally fall ill when they’re around doctors from Grey’s Anatomy. And so, Owen had to take a patient to  Pac North. Alex made good use of this chance and showed him around the hospital. And as emergencies happen on a daily basis in hospitals, they found themselves involved in another case.

Before long, Owen had taken charge and issuing instructions to residents on how to do their jobs. Alex decided to offer Owen the job as Head Of Trauma and said that he could shape the department in any way he wanted, which Owen accepted at the end of the episode. That’s a lot of autonomy for Owen. As the hospital has unnumerable issues to address including investors,  Owen’s got a lot on his hands.  The former military doctor is a tough one and has never backed down from a challenge.  It’s quite likely that he will succeed at his new designation, without anyone interfering in his work.

Now judging by the latest exodus, it wouldn’t be surprising if Grey’s is heading towards another spinoff after 'Private Practice'. The Pac North storyline seems to be going strong and it’s quite possible that Owen will stay for quite a while with Alex and Richard, till he can salvage the struggling hospital’s reputation. Let’s not forget, Owen is not a quitter either.  For all we know, Owen may never want to return to Grey-Sloan and may just thrive at being his own boss.

Apart from this,  Alex and Richard are determined to prove to Bailey that she made the worst mistake in firing them and so they won't be quitting anytime soon.

It remains to be seen which is the next doctor to move to North Pac.  Could Meredith Grey be next? That would be something to watch out for. In Shondaland, anything is possible.

It has been practically 16 years of Grey’s Anatomy, where doctors have loved, lost and grieved in Grey-Sloan memorial. Addison Montogomery (Kate Walsh), who was at first caught in the infamous love triangle between Derek and Meredith, left for 'Private Practice'.  Derek’s sister Amelia, who is a fan-favorite, came from 'Private Practice' to 'Grey’s Anatomy'; so who's to tell there could be a shift to Pac North now.

A new spinoff might just be the change that Grey’s fans might need right now. Maybe, it's time for new faces and new storylines.
