'Grey's Anatomy' is known for unceremoniously killing off characters, or giving them quick and summary exits. Fans have had to let go of Derek 'McDreamy' Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey), George O' Malley (TR Knight), Izzie Stevens (Katherine Heigl), Mark Sloane (Eric Dane), Lexie Grey (Chyler Leigh), among others as well-loved. And now, to join the list is Alex Karev (Justin Chambers). After the actor announced that he would be leaving the show after sixteen years, a current of anxiety erupted over social media and fans wondered how his exit will be dealt with on the show.

Moreover, what happens to his wife Jo Karev (Camilla Luddington)? The couple had just gotten through another difficult and hellish patch. The previous episode saw Jo kidnapping a baby from a care home. It would have been interesting to see how Alex would have responded to this unusual situation, and how it would affect their relationship. Except, we might not get to see that. Alex and Jo's adorable pairing (though fans debate it, and they still want to see him with Izzie) had been one of the strong points of the show, and now without that, where would Jo's storyline go?

It has been a long and painful road for Jolex, and they've broken up several times over the past few years. Well, they seem to have had an equal amount of proposals as well. Things really seemed to end for them, when Alex beat up Andrew DeLuca, because he thought that he was hurting Jo. Alex was subsequently jailed and brought out (because er, who stays in jail in 'Grey's Anatomy') and the two later reconciled. They've managed to stick by each other through thick and thin. True, they're arguably a little lacklustre, compared to Alex's chemistry with Izzie, but man, we'll miss these two. In the last episode, we saw a car crash, we're fervently hoping that it isn't Alex.

So, what will happen to Jo? Fans are not going to accept her with anyone else.

'Grey's Anatomy' airs on Friday, January 23, at 8 pm, on ABC.
