'Grey's Anatomy' Season 16 Episode 9 Review: Shocking fall finale hints at death, resignation, love triangles, but who's the real father?

Racy and riveting, Episode 9 of 'Grey's Anatomy' Season 16 was a major eye-opener, leaving viewers distraught with six big shockers and a set of questions.
UPDATED NOV 22, 2019

The magical thing about home is that it feels good to leave, and it feels even better to come back. With truckloads of charisma and charm, Meredith Grey is back "home," even if it's "broken home." Yes, that's what she calls Grey Sloan Hospital. If there's one thing that won't let you blink an eye, it's her text messages with Cristina Yang! Apparently, the latter has sent a package for Mer. Why don't the showrunners simply get Cristina back and let fans heave a sigh of relief?

Titled 'Let’s All Go to the Bar,' the hour-long drama ushered a stiff competition for DeLuca, hinting at another love triangle for Meredith! Cormac Hayes (Richard Flood), the newly-appointed chief of pediatric surgery seems to have taken the center stage in Meredith's world. The two were at loggerheads during the surgery of a 13-year-old patient Jamie. In one scene, Meredith showed the six feet of self-pride who the boss is. "Listen, Dr Whoever you are, this is my house. You're a guest in my home." He, however, took her case in the last scene. "Listen, Grey, this is your house but someone gave me a key. So it's best we learn to live together."

Meanwhile, DeLuca got a piece of mind from Link, who explained how he is nowhere close to Meredith in her achievements. "She doesn't see you as her equal because you're not. I'm great, she's better. You're still resident." So, does this mean DeLuca will try to get back in Meredith's life while she is swept away by Cormac, who at least seems to be at her level of expertise?

Watch out for another new entree at Pac-North, when Dr Daphne Lopez stopped by to meet Alex Karev but Owen had to step in for a walk-through to woo her to join the staff. If that wasn't all, Catherine not only met Jackson's new 'Station 19' girlfriend Vic but also caught wind of Richard Webber's disloyalty. Reeling under the shock of Sabi's death, Maggie's mental state went downhill after another complicated surgery and she even offered "resignation." Oh, and Tom proposed Teddy, while Owen still couldn't make up his mind.

The episode also posed a conundrum when a baby dropped right into Jo's arms and another was lost after Bailey's miscarriage. But there was a major shocker at the end when Amelia finally went for her ultrasound, Carina revealed that the mom-to-be wasn’t 20 weeks pregnant, but 24 weeks pregnant, giving a clue as to how the baby was Owen's? Unbelievable, right? Well, as if the series of spine-chillers weren't enough, a car crashed into Joe’s Bar while Jackson, Ben, Chief Herrera, Levi, Nico, Helm, Casey and Blake were all there, setting the stage for the two-hour 'Station 19' crossover episode, but only after a long winter break!

Racy and riveting, Episode 9 was a major eye-opener, leaving viewers distraught with a set of questions. Is Amelia the mother of Owen's baby? Will Miranda Bailey go into a deep sorrow after her baby's loss? Is Cormac Meredith's new love interest? Will Maggie actually resign? Who will die from the cast after the big accident? Hold your breath as 'Grey's Anatomy' returns after its midseason finale with a set of chills and thrills.
