Meredith's Halloween help

Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) wakes up in the jail to her release day only to the horror of being stuck due to a delay in paperwork being sent from the court. As she whiled away her time, she got to know her cellmate Paula better and realized her story was even more grueling than her.

A single mother of two, she was falsely arrested for assaulting a cop while covering the graveyard shift and leaving her children home alone. Her kids were put in foster care as she couldn't afford bail. "I figured I can go insane with rage or I can find new things to do," she tells Grey. As is characteristic of Meredith, no sooner did she get her bail, she helped Paula get out too. Isn't her role getting a tad bit too boring, eh?

Jo-Alex's spooky wedding vows

Since the beginning of the episode, Jo tries to scare Alex by dressing up as the corpse-bride. However, Alex is no faint-heart and pays no heed to his wife's antics. Instead, he asks for her help as he finds out that there is a graveyard in the construction site of Pac North. "I don't have more room for dead bodies today," he tells her. Towards the end, he finally gets funding on account of his leadership qualities and the two decide to celebrate by taking vows.

Jo suddenly gives Alex a pregnancy scare and he is panic-stricken. Her happiness knows no bounds as she finally sees his shocked expression.

Link-Amelia's lovey-dovey day

Link invites Amelia for lunch with his divorced parents, aka the Bickersons, for his cancerversary. It turned out as a total mess up with Amelia divulging too much and Link's mother Maureen announcing her second marriage with Eric, his father. Link was visibly upset and blurted out, "You're going to be grandparents." Later, Amelia helped straighten things out and told him, "You can give them a chance to do better."

Zola and DeLuca's Derek talk

Andrew DeLuca tries to get closer to Meredith's daughter Zola but she just didn't want him to. When he offered to help her with her butterfly wings, she snapped, "Don't. You’re not my dad." Her father Derek had once fixed her wings for her and she cried out, "I don’t want to forget him." Reassuring her, he told her how no one would ever forget her dad and told her about the time her legendary dad saved lab tech Isaac. The two seem to be slowly getting along, but with Meredith and DeLuca's chemistry fizzling out, is that even necessary?

Tom's tear-jerking Halloween tale

Tom just couldn't stop grumbling about the Halloween season, and Bailey decided to confront him about why he was being such a damn Halloween Grinch. It didn't take much time for Tom to spill out an emotional tale. Turns out, he had always been his late son David’s favorite. One year, he was excited to wear the Luke Skywalker costume that he and his dad had put together… but his dad passed away two weeks before Halloween. Soon, Bailey started to wail loudly and turned it into an awkward moment between the nemeses.

Apart from a few boring punchlines and dragged storylines, there were several heart-melting moments, especially Jackson's impersonation of Alex when a patient couldn't believe his surgeon was not working there anymore and Levi Schmitt's selfie game with his boyfriend Nico Lang. All's well that ends well, ain't it?
