Greta Thunberg responds to Trump's sarcastic tweet: 'I knew he was going to say something about me'
Greta Thunberg has responded to President Trump's sarcastic tweet about her saying she "knew he was going to say something about me".
The US leader recently wrote that Thunberg seemed "like a very happy young girl looking forward to a bright and wonderful future", which many construed as a mockery of her emotionally-charged speech at the UN General Assembly.
The 16-year-old was angry that Trump snubbed her when he arrived at the UN Climate Summit on Monday, September 23. However, the teenage climate activist told a Swedish talk show that Trump's ridicule "doesn't make a difference".
Talk show host Fredrik Skavlan asked Thunberg about the president's tweet on SVT. "I mean, you can interpret it in different ways, many different ways," she responded.
"I knew that sometime he is probably going to say something about me and it was like, it doesn't make any difference in a way."
When asked if she was able to read between the lines and catch the sarcasm in his tweet, she said, "Of course I do... but of course he's going to write that."
The 16-year-old recently picked up a $103,000 (£83,000) 'Alternative Nobel Prize' for her climate activism and addressed her apparent "death stare" at the US commander-in-chief which went viral on social media.
The talk show audience cracked up when they were shown a snap of the teenager silently glaring at the president when he entered the room. Filmmaker Michael Moore, who was also present on the show, quipped that Trump could "feel" the icy stare even if he chose to ignore her.
"I was stopped because suddenly he came in and security said, 'you have to step to the side'," Thunberg recalled. "Then I just wondered what was going on and then he showed up, I think I was very shocked."
