Greta Thunberg branded real-life Lisa as fans claim 'The Simpsons' predicted climate activist's impassioned UN speech

There are some startling similarities between the tone of Greta Thunberg's speech and the one Lisa Simpson gives in a season 17 episode

'The Simpsons' has made quite a name for itself by being unerringly accurate in some of its predictions, and following the rapid rise in popularity of teenage climate change activist Greta Thunberg, social media is pointing out that the animated sitcom may just have predicted this as well.

Thunberg's 'Global Strike 4 Climate,' a global movement to demand that politicians and elected officials take action on climate change, saw hundreds of thousands around the world take to the streets this past week.

The 16-year-old followed that up with an impassioned speech at the UN general assembly, where she lambasted world leaders for continuing to ignore the crisis, and instead, pouring resources into fueling economic growth.

"People are suffering, people are dying, entire ecosystems are collapsing," she thundered, seemingly holding back tears of anger. "We are at the beginning of a mass extinction and all you can talk about is money, and fairy tales of eternal economic growth."

"How dare you continue to look away and come here saying that you're doing enough when the politics and solutions needed are still nowhere in sight. You say you hear us and that you understand the urgency, but no matter how sad and angry I am, I do not want to believe that. Because if you really understood the situation and still kept on failing to act then you would be evil and that I refuse to believe."

While the speech, as well as Thunberg giving US President Donald Trump a death stare, made headlines, social media claims to have found a startling resemblance between her speech and the one Lisa Simpson gave in a season 17 episode.

During a presentation in class, she bemoans the lack of action surrounding climate change and asserts that their home town of Springfield, and the world, will cease to exist in the near future because of their negligence.

"Oh, Ralph, how I envy your optimism," she says in the episode. "There is no Springfield 50 years in the future! With global warning trapping CO2 in our poisonous atmosphere, our superheated oceans will rise, drowning our lowlands, leaving what's left of humanity baking in deserts that once fed the world! [panting] And in the new Nineveh, darkness falls."
