'Greenland': Gerard Butler to Allison Garrity and Scott Glenn, meet the cast of Ray Roman Waugh's disaster drama film

Disaster dramas are perhaps best-watched at times like these. At the end of these movies, there's a sense of new beginnings and it was only fitting that Ray Roman Waugh's 'Greenland', after multiple delays due to the coronavirus pandemic, is finally releasing on December 18. It's the last month of the year and with all the tumult that's engulfed the world, 'Greenland's release could never be more apt as it sees a family fighting for survival as a comet ravages the earth and hope to come out unscathed, just as we want to with the virus outbreak.

Now the pandemic might not be a comet, but it was definitely a major scare. With a December video-on-demand release, it's time to get the popcorn out. brush away the pandemic blues and watch a flick that comprises a slew of high profile stars. 'Greenland' stars Gerard Butler (who also co-produced), Morena Baccarin, Roger Dale Floyd, Scott Glenn, David Denman, and Hope Davis. Ahead of the film's release, here's a quick look at who's who.

Butler plays John Garrity, a family man who makes a frantic escape to Greenland with his family. He plays a Scottish architect. While people fondly remember him for the romance drama 'P.S. I Love You', it was in the epic war drama '300' that he made heads turn as the Spartan king Leonidas.

The breathtakingly visual movie saw Leonidas lead 300 Spartans into battle against the Persian "God-King" Xerxes (Rodrigo Santoro) and his army of over 300,000 soldiers that sealed Butler's persona as an action hero. Butler is best-known for playing secret Service agent Mike Banning in the action thriller series 'Olympus Has Fallen', 'London Has Fallen', 'Angel Has Fallen' and the upcoming 'Night Has Fallen.'

Butler will be back again in 'Night Has Fallen', the fourth film of 'The Fallen' series. 

Morena Baccarin as Allison Garrity

Baccarin plays Allison Garrity, John's estranged wife. The Brazilian-American actress has had quite the journey in Hollywood with a string of top TV shows and films. She is known for portraying Inara Serra in the sci-fi series 'Firefly' and the follow-up flick 'Serenity'. Her other major acting credits include the 'Deadpool' duology.  On TV, she garnered critical acclaim for playing Jessica Brody in the Emmy-award winning Showtime thriller series, 'Homeland'.

The young actor has quite the list. He's starred in AMC's 'The Walking Dead: World Beyond', 'Stargirl' and 'Doctor Sleep'. He is the son of actor/artist Roger Floyd ('Doom Patrol' and 'Macgyver') and is already carving a name for himself as one for the future. In 'Greenland', Dale plays Nathan Garrity, a diabetic and the son of John and Allison.

Scott Glenn has an extensive acting credit list and is one of Hollywood's veteran actors. The actor is best known for 'The Hunt for Red October', 'The Silence of the Lambs', 'Backdraft', 'Vertical Limit' (2000), and 'The Bourne Ultimatum'. He plays Allison's father in 'Greenland'. 

The film's official synopsis reads: "A family fights for survival as planet-killing comet races to Earth. John Garrity (Gerard Butler), his estranged wife Allison (Morena Baccarin), and young son Nathan make a perilous journey to their only hope for sanctuary. Amid terrifying news accounts of cities around the world being leveled by the comet’s fragments, the Garrity’s experience the best and worst in humanity while they battle the increasing panic and lawlessness surrounding them. As the countdown to global apocalypse approaches zero, their incredible trek culminates in a desperate and last-minute flight to a possible safe haven."

'Greenland' releases December 18 on VoD.
