'Green Eggs and Ham': Ilana Glazer says she loved how the series honored Dr. Seuss's voice and his vocabulary
We are all hyped up about the forthcoming Netflix series 'Green Ham and Eggs' and Netflix recently had a green carpet at the Hollywood Post 43.
The series is all set to release on Netflix on November 8 and it revolves around the whimsical world of Dr. Seuss. The series has a star-studded cast who also made their way to the green carpet along with their families.
At the green carpet, MEA WorldWide (MEAWW) caught up with Ilana Glazer who plays EB, Michelle's daughter and a good-hearted girl. Glazer spoke to us about what sold her into the project and much more.
Talking about what made her accept this project, Glazer said, "Jared Stern, the creator really sold me. In the first few episodes, I was really working closely with him, and he and I just got each other, that direction, and it was just fun to play with him that way, and that was true of all the creators, and Ellen, one of the producers."
She said, "I really loved how funny the language was, that honored Dr. Seuss's voice. But I also love how the writing was honoring the Seussian vocabulary. It's hysterical, the way the Seussian words come about and cracks me up. And I just loved my character, EB's sense of adventure. She was just going out and also I could not believe the cast. The cast goes deep. It has incredible people. I am so honored to be apart of this quilt of amazing actors."
Glazer is undoubtedly one amongst the big icon for women, so we asked her if she is worried when kids are watching some of her animated series and then Google her to find out she was on 'Broad City.' She said, "I actually think it is powerful as a woman to embody pluralism. To be naughty, to be really sweet, to be wholesome, to be sexual, to be non-sexual, I really hope that kids who grow up with me on 'Sesame Street', with me on 'Green Eggs and Ham' watch 'Broad City' when the time is right for them. Because it is really a privilege to be able to occupy all those spaces as a woman."
We asked Glazer if a 'Broad City' movie could happen one day, she said, "You know, I don't know, I'm not sure. This was a 10-year project, from a web series we started in 2009 and the show ended in 2019. So, now I'm really trying to process the whole experience before diving back into it. So I don't even know. Anything is possible but, Abby and I are each really exploring this new space of being solo entities and it's so amazing."
Adding to that she said, "Abby is doing such amazing stuff, so I'm really excited about my stuff too. It really is also a privilege to just be friends. We're doing stuff together and producing stuff but to be able to be normal friends and sisters is such a blast."
Talking about what she is doing for the 2020 elections, Glazer revealed, "So, my political organization, Generator, is going to be on tour with my comedy tour in March and October, so I hope to be going around the country raising consciousness on voting."
