'Grantchester' Season 5 Episode 1 will see the Vicar of Grantchester Will Davenport (Tom Brittney) find himself struggling to get his mother to find a reason to live life without complaining while helping Geordie (Robson Green) investigate a case of murder. The promo of the show's premiere episode features a scene of Will and Geordie sharing breakfast and having a rundown of their life.

The scene is reminiscent of partners who are used to working together and are comfortable enough around each other to discuss family and life in general. Geordie continues to hope that Will will give up on being celibate. Since Vicars in England do not have to be celibate, this decision of his continues to be a factor that identifies him. While he struggles with a big night, and made it to breakfast with great difficulty, Geordie shares details of all the cases that he had to handle the night before which includes drunk and disorderly and indecent exposure among others.

As they continue to discuss the night, the two get interrupted by a journalist, Ella Harding (Lauren Carse), who tries to get some scoop from Geordie. However, she gets introduced to Will instead. When she hears about his celibacy vow though, she makes fun of how he should be 'Won't' and not 'Will', considering he will not be putting out. She begins by flirting with Will, but Geordie says, "I wouldn't bother, he is celibate." To this she responds, "Oh, you are that Will. Should change your name to Won't

While the promo only features this scene, the plot of the first episode is expected to revolve around a murder that has taken place on the grounds of a local women's college. While investigating the death of the victim, we will see how Will and Ella's relationship blooms. The makers and cast members did tease a new relationship in Will's life that would test his determination to keep his vow intact. Are we looking at Ella to be the person who finally has Will back out of the vow that he had made and will the vicar be intrigued by a woman who seems ambitious and actively involved in her career just 10 years after women were allowed to go to college?

He did help Geordie come to terms with his wife getting more involved with her job, but are we looking to sail a new relationship in the show?
