Grammys 2024: Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice snubbed as Recording Academy mistakenly names them as winners in rap category
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Recently, the 2024 Grammys mistakenly announced Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice winners in the rap category and then, later corrected the error.
During the pre-show ceremony that took place on Sunday, February 4, 2024, the winners for non-televised categories were announced. In the Best Rap Song category, Killer Mike's 'Scientists & Engineers' featuring Andre 3000, Future, and Eryn Allen Kane was announced as the winner by the live show presenters.
The Recording Academy's X account made a mistake on social media by announcing 'Barbie World' by Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice featuring Aqua as the winner in the category.
The error was promptly resolved, but fans were swift to criticize the blunder.
An X user shared, "The Grammys should absolutely apologize to Nicki Minaj & Ice Spice."

Another user penned, "Nicki Minaj deserves better; she's a legend who changed the game for female rappers. Despite backlash, she persisted, opening doors for others. The disrespect, especially from the #GRAMMYs reveals the industry's unfairness, impacting new artists like Ice Spice. We Love You Nicki."

How many Grammys has Nicki Minaj won?
Nicki Minaj has been a major force in the music industry since she dropped her first album 'Pink Friday' in 2010.
At the time of writing, Nicki Minaj has not won a Grammy. Despite not winning a Grammy, she has received recognition from the Recording Academy on 12 occasions.
In 2022, Minaj appeared to become frustrated with the Recording Academy after they categorized her song 'Super Freaky Girl' as pop instead of rap, contrary to her expectations.
What is Nicki Minaj’s beef with the Grammys?
For the unversed, in October 2022, Nicki Minaj bashed the Grammys for categorizing her latest music as "pop," leading to a beef.
Then, it was revealed that Nicki Minaj's song 'Super Freaky Girl' will be considered for pop categories at the 2023 Grammy Awards, even though it was originally submitted for rap categories.
At that point, Minaj stated that the reclassification of 'Super Freaky Girl' was a deliberate attempt to harm her personally.
In a video shared on Instagram, Minaj addressed the whole matter and said, "They stay moving the goalposts when it comes to me. Why is the goalpost only ever moved when it's Nicki?"
The 'Bang Bang' hitmaker further added, "What do you think is gonna happen when they start voting on these pop categories and they have to decide between Nicki Minaj and Harry Styles, or Nicki Minaj and Adele?" Put her in there, so she has more competition and less of a chance to win."
Minaj criticized the Grammys on X, formerly known as Twitter, accusing them of hypocrisy and suggesting that Latto's popular song 'Big Energy' should be labeled as pop.
The music mogul shared, "I have no prob being moved out the RAP category as long as we r ALL being treated FAIRLY. ANY1 who says diff is simply a Nicki hater or a troll."
I have no prob being moved out the RAP category as long as we r ALL being treated FAIRLY. If SFG has 2B moved out RAP then so does Big Energy! ANY1 who says diff is simply a Nicki hater or a troll. I’d actually LUV 2 c a more street record win- male OR female! IJS rightIsRight 🫡
