Is Michigan Gov Gretchen Whitmer being slammed for Covid- 19 orders? 'Big Gretch' showed 'loser Trump' leadership
Michigan governor Gretchen Whitmer is being praised and criticized – all at the same time for her latest wide-ranging restrictions to curb the impact of surging infections from coronavirus. In a night press conference held on Sunday, November 15, she described the situation as the “worst moment” yet in the global pandemic. The new restrictions imposed through the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services order, will temporarily halt in-person teaching at high schools and colleges, dine-in services at restaurants and bars, high school athletics as well as shut down of some establishments including movie theatres, bowling alleys, and casinos, reports Detroit News. Meanwhile, the indoor residential gathering has been limited to two households at one point in time. The new regulations will be effective starting Wednesday, November 18, and is scheduled to end on December 8, three weeks later.
The reports states, “Under the new policies, child care centers, hair salons, retail shops and preschool through eighth-grade schools will still be allowed to be open. Playing in parks and outdoor recreation will continue to be allowed, and gatherings of up to 25 people can take place at funerals.” Whitmer said at the conference, "The situation has never been more dire. We are at the precipice, and we need to take some action.”
Democrats leaders have praised Whitmer for taking stringent action against the novel coronavirus situation. Senate Minority Jim Ananich, D-Flint, who has been tested positive for the virus reacted to Whitmer’s move saying, “We are at a true tipping point where we can either choose to surrender to the virus or we can make difficult, but temporary, changes to our lifestyles to prevent spread.” However, it hasn’t gone down well with Republicans. Senate Majority Leader Mike Shirkey issued a statement in response to Governor’s latest restrictions. He says, “While we were meeting in good faith, Gov Whitner was working on her own strategy that did not include input from the Senate Republicans and we see the result of her plans in this latest round of restrictions.”
“We are disappointed that Gov. Whitner chose to do it alone, again. The Senate Republicans will continue working with our doctors and the medical community on ways we can combat this virus and are ready to work with the Governor when she decides to work as a team to fight this virus.”
The majority of social media users have reacted similarly to the democrats, praising Whitmer for imposing the new restrictions. Calling her "Big Gretch", a large number of people are sharing tweets and posts in favor of the Michigan Governor's new orders. One tweeted, "If they had let Big Gretch do her job the way she was doing it, this could’ve been avoided!!! She did 10x better than our dumb ass Governor!! He was worried about kissing Trump’s ass and now he lost, so watcha gonna do now @GovRonDeSantis !?!" Another added, "big Gretch" (aka stretchin' Gretchen) is the alpha mammy Michigan liberals never had" One tweeted, "Trump the Loser, don't give a damn about the virus, all he care about is himself. Big Gretch had to step up and show the leadership Bunker Boy lacks"

However, some are of the opinion that the three-week lockdown by Whitmer wouldn't be effective. One tweeted, "@GovWhitmer, I am sure you are just fine with this lockdown as it won’t affect you or your family, but how about the people that will NOT DIE from COVID but will actually suffer depression, drug abuse, household abuse, and loss of employment, etc! Do these people matter to you?" and another added, "Go visit family. Live your lives. Take your mask wash hands. Have a great turkey. Piss on that tyrant Whitmer and political Biden and Fauci"
