'Gossip Girl' remake: Air time, how to live stream and all about HBO Max teen drama
'Better watch out Upper East Siders. Someone's out to get you. You know you love me. XOXO Gossip Girl'. It's been nine years since 'Gossip Girl' fanatics have heard those lines but the wait is over now. 'Gossip Girl' Reboot is here and how. Although we do have traces of the OG series, there's a marked difference in the way the characters interact.
Serena Van Der Woodsen (Blake Lively) is not your hapless damsel anymore, and Dan Humphrey (Penn Badgley) could be a schoolgirl. Clearly, a lot has changed since sleuthing blogs and unsettling social dynamics fed by the affluent living out of Manhattan. However, at this point a lot is up in the air and we'll have to wait for an official announcement about the roles the new actors will be playing.
'Gossip Girl' spin-off set 8 years later greenlit by HBO Max for 10 episodes
'Gossip Girl' was like 'high school' for Leighton Meester: 'No, I wouldn't wanna go back to it, I was a kid!'
Air time and how to live stream
'Gossip Girl' reboot will premiere on July 8 on HBO Max. Those who are not subscribed to the OTT platform yet can avail the $15/ month plan. In case, you are not in the United States, using VPN will hopefully help your case.
The official synopsis reads: "'Gossip Girl' explores just how much social media — and the landscape of New York itself — has changed in the intervening years." Exactly our thoughts when we first saw the official trailer," and adds: "this extension of the pop culture classic takes us back to the Upper East Side finding a new generation of New York private school teens being introduced to social surveillance nine years after the original blogger’s website went dark."
The 'blog' has now been replaced by Instagram, using which gossip girl hounds Upper East siders, tears them down and exposes their dirty secrets. It's just a software upgrade, the basic plotline remains the same.
The series stars Jordan Alexander, Eli Brown, Thomas Doherty, Tavi Gevinson, Emily Alyn Lind, Evan Mock, Zion Moreno, Whitney Peak and Savannah Lee Smith in key roles.
It's been a few hours since the trailer dropped and it has clocked over 50K views and 1K comments on YouTube. There's no doubt the numbers will climb given how thrilled fans are to have the show back, albeit repackaged.
"I read that the producers didn't want to remake Gossip Girl but rather continue it but years later with a new crowd - so that there's a possibility of the OG characters making appearances if they want," one commented, while another pointed out: "i love that they are trying to shy away from the original and give their own take PLUS this entire cast is SO HOT."
A third posted: "This looks nothing like the original Gossip Girl. And that's fucking amazing! I'm so hyped oh my god."
'Gossip Girl' has been developed by showrunner Joshua Safran, who was also a writer and executive producer with the original series. It is produced by Fake Empire and Alloy Entertainment in association with Warner Bros. Television and CBS Studios. Serving as Executive Producers are Josh Schwartz, Stephanie Savage, Leslie Morgenstein, and Gina Girolamo.
