GOP debate: Ron DeSantis hailed as he dodges question about January 6 and says 'we've got to look forward'

Ron DeSantis has impressed Americans after his statement about 'moving forward' when asked a question about January 6

MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN: Former President Donald Trump may not be at the GOP debate in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, but he was a topic of conversation. At GOP's presidential debate Florida Governor and Republican candidate Ron DeSantis dodged questions about the former US President.

Instead of making Trump the topic of conversation, DeSantis made it abundantly clear in the GOP debate that he would rather focus on what’s to come, because it’s not about what happened on January 6, 2021, but about January 20, 2025, when the next president takes office.

Ron DeSantis swerves away from the January 6 question

Fox News anchor and GOP debate moderator Martha MacCallum asked Ron DeSantis, “Governor DeSantis, do you think Mike Pence did the right thing on January 6?”

DeSantis responded, “So here’s what we need to do, we need to end the weaponization of these federal agents.” MacCallum was quick to interrupt DeSantis, “but that’s not the question.” To that DeSantis said, “I know, but here’s the thing.”

The Florida governor continued, “This election is not about January 6 of 2021, it’s about January 20 of 2025, when the next President is going to take office.”

DeSantis received a huge cheer from the audience, “I know what the democrats would like to do, they want to talk about all these other issues but we’ve got to focus on your future. We’ve got to focus on reversing the decline of our country.”

DeSantis then spoke about something he learned in the military, which resonated with the internet and the audience in Milwaukee.

DeSantis said, “I learned in the military, I was assigned with the US Navy Seals in Iraq, that you focus on the mission above all else. You can’t get distracted. So, Republicans we’ve got to look forward, and we’ve got to make sure we’re bringing the message that can win in November 2024.”

Supporters of Ron DeSantis have taken over X, formerly Twitter, to applaud DeSantis as one person wrote, “BEST MESSAGE though he should have also added it's time for America to move on from Donald Trump,” and another said, “

Internet couldn't stop praising DeSantis and his remarks as one person wrote, "This was great!!" and another tweeted, "DeSantis' best moment of several good ones to that point. Kudos." 

After the GOP debate, DeSantis has solidified a place for himself with many voters as one wrote, "Focusing on the Future! #DeSantis will move the country Forward, not backwards. #RD24" and another said, "POTUS."
