MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN: At 64, Republican candidate and former vice-president, Mike Pence, has appeared to simultaneously take a dig at Joe Biden and Vivek Ramaswamy’s age, in the lightning round of the GOP debate.

Martha MacCallum raised the question of whether presidents should have to pass a mental and physical test in order to serve, in light of Biden turning 82 on inauguration day.

The question was posed to Pence to begin with, who believed a president should neither be too old nor too young.

The internet did not seem too thrilled with Pence’s response to this question of the lightning round in the GOP debate.

Mike Pence does not want a president who is too old or young

Pence said, “Well, it might be a good idea to have everyone in Washington DC pass a mental and physical test.”

“Let me say, I’m running for the President of the United States. We don’t need a president that’s too old, and we don’t need a President that’s too young,” Pence continued.

Pence continued, “We need a President who has been there. We need a president who knows how Congress works, how the white house works.”

Pence was cut short on account of it being a lightning round. Bret Baier asked Ramaswamy, “Mr. Ramaswamy, I think you were mentioned there. You are 38, you are the youngest on the stage.”

As the GOP debate on the age issue continued, the internet held on strongly to Pence’s words in this round.

Internet responds to Mike Pence’s statement on a president’s age

After the first part of the lightning round at the GOP debate, netizens believed that Pence had “no argument.”

One person wrote on X, “Mike Pence has no argument for everything it’s just 'I’m the right age' 'i have the most experience' 'i was vice president so obviously only i know how to be president.'"

Another wrote, “You say age is an issue for too old or too young… You showed you’re #OutOfTouch! Drop out and enjoy retirement! @realDonaldTrump @VivekGRamaswamy winning… #MAGA2024.”

Another user asked, “When Mike Pence said you shouldn’t have a president who is too young or too old, what specific age does he have in mind.”

People have taken offense at the “personal slap” against Ramaswamy.

A person wrote, “@Mike_Pence went too far with that age slap against @VivekGRamaswamy He insulted the founding fathers. #GOPdebates #GOPDebate #RNC #RNCDebate #MikePence #VivekRamaswamy #GOP #FoxNews.”

Another person wrote, “I thought Mike Pence showed how badly out of step he is about @VivekGRamaswamy‘s comments about restoring American pride said it all."

The psrson added, "And the baiting about his inexperience and age, again, not seeing that America is ready for fresh ideas, based on principles where we started!”

The internet also mocked Pence’s dramatic pauses while he spoke during the debate. A person wrote, “I feel like I age 10 years with every long dramatic pause from Mike Pence.”
