MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN: The first Republican debate hosted by Fox News ahead of the 2024 Presidential Elections has made the race even more thrilling with GOP leaders giving their controversial views.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis definitely came through by suggesting that he would send military troops to the Mexican border on his first day in office.

The Internet, divided like the political landscape, was largely not happy with his statement and many of them did not hesitate to call him a "clown."

Ron DeSantis on 'protecting' his citizens by invading Mexico

In this veing, moderator Martha MacCallum asked, "As President, would you support sending US Special forces over the border into Mexico to take out Fentanyl labs, and drug cartel operations?"

DeSantis responded positively, evoking applause from the Republican audience.

He said, "I will do it on day one! The cartels are killing tens of thousands of our fellow citizens...We have to reestablish the rule of law and we have to defend our people."

DeSantis then proceeded to say that as President and Commander in Chief, he was required to "protect the people" of America by using lethal force.

He then said, "I have met angel moms throughout this country. I met a lady in Texas named Tracy. Her son took one Percocet that was laced with fentanyl and immediately died."

DeSantis further said, "That is happening all across this country because of the poison they are bringing in."

He concluded his arguments with, "So, as President, would I use force? Would I treat them as foreign terrorist organizations? You are darn right I would!"

Internet shocked at Ron DeSantis' proposal to attack Mexico

People had a lot to say about DeSantis' bold declaration. One wrote on X, "Ron DeSantis said he would go into Mexico with special forces on Day 1 in response to the Fentanyl problem."

The person added, "The crowd ate it up. Ron is a total clown for that one."

Another wrote, "Remember when Donald Trump threatened to destroy Canada. Well, Ron DeSantis just threatened to send troops into Mexico."

The user added, "That’s essentially a declaration of war against one of our biggest trade partners Clearly this wasn’t well discussed in his infamous debate prep."

A third wrote, "Ron DeSantis wants to declare war on Mexico because he's a racist psychopath."

A worried user wrote, "@RonDeSantis you are a sad sack of s**t. #gop more #fentanyl What would you is made in the USA."

The person added, "You literally want to start a war. May #god please make sure you don’t win. You will kill is all. #foxnews #GOPDebate."

Another user posted, "Ron Desantis just admitted he'd break international law, NAFTA, and every Treaty we've signed with Mexico and invade their country. Only question is will he ask Congress beforehand?"

Another user asked, "Ron DeSantis doesn’t support Ukrainians fighting for their freedom, but wants to start a war on our southern border with Mexico."

The user added, "He doesn’t mention the refugee crisis that would ensue or the young Americans that would be sent to fight an insurgent guerrilla war."
