Golf champion Thorbjorn Olesen allegedly sexually assaulted female passenger, urinated in first-class aisle on British Airways flight

The Metropolitan Police Service confirmed that they arrested a 29-year-old man at the airport shortly after the plane arrived in London for multiple reasons.
UPDATED AUG 2, 2019

Golfer Thorbjorn Olesen was arrested earlier this week after he allegedly molested a female passenger and urinated in the first-class aisle while flying on a British Airways flight from Nashville, Tennessee to Heathrow Airport in London.

The five-time European tour champion was traveling with fellow golfer Ian Poulter when the alleged incident took place. Poulter, 43, tried to calm down the 29-year-old Olesen when the latter began to hurl abuses at the passengers and crew members aboard the flight on Monday.

However, when his co-passenger went to sleep, the Danish allegedly started sexually assaulting one of the women on the flight before proceeding to relieve himself on the aisle of the first-class section.

"He started abusing some of the passengers and crew and then made a pass at one of the female passengers before taking a leak in the aisle," one witness told the Sun. “It was shocking behavior. You would expect it may be on a budget airline but not in the first-class cabin on Britsh Airways."

Although Poulter's agent did not take names, he told the outlet that he had helped calm down a “slightly intoxicated” passenger. “He then went to sleep and the first he knew of anything else was when the police were waiting at Heathrow," he added.

Ian Poulter of England plays his shot from the second tee during the first round of the Sentry Tournament of Champions at the Plantation Course at Kapalua Golf Club on January 3, 2019 in Lahaina, Hawaii.

The Metropolitan Police Service confirmed to People Magazine that they arrested a 29-year-old man at the airport shortly after the plane arrived in London for multiple reasons.

“On Monday, 29 July, officers based at Heathrow Airport arrested a 29-year-old man on an in-bound flight on suspicion of sexual assault, being drunk on board an aircraft and failing to comply with the orders of cabin crew,” a MET spokesperson said. “He was taken into custody and subsequently released under investigation.”

It was unclear if the accused golfer faced charges. Olesen's rep has not released any statement regarding the matter.

Olesen and Poulter were headed back to London after competing in the WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational in Memphis, Tennessee, where they finished in 27th and 8th place, respectively.

British Airways issued the following statement, condemning the incident: "Our customers and crews deserve to enjoy their flights, and not to suffer any form of abuse. This sort of behavior will not be tolerated, and the appropriate action will always be taken."
