PENNSYLVANIA: Gisele Fetterman, the wife of Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman, bemoaned that she has been subjected to the majority of the harassment directed at the legislator and his family ever since he ran for office. Fetterman asserted that, like other well-known female personalities like Meghan Markle, Hillary Clinton, and Michelle Obama, she had experienced "dehumanizing bullying."

According to Gisele, like these women, she has also been labeled as a "power-hungry wife." She wrote a guest column for the women's magazine Elle on Thursday, March 30, 2023, in which she talked about her husband's political profession and the "vicious attacks" that intensified after it was revealed that he had gone into a hospital for depression after having a stroke during his campaign.

How is John Fetterman now?

Pennsylvania Lt. Gov. John Fetterman campaigns for U.S. Senate at a meet and greet at Joseph A. Hardy Connellsville Airport on May 10, 2022 in Lemont Furnace, Pennsylvania. Fetterman is the Democratic primary front runner in a field that includes U.S. Rep. Conor Lamb and state Sen. Malcolm Kenyatta in the May 17 primary vying to replace Republican Sen. Pat Toomey, who is retiring.

Despite having cognitive problems following a stroke in 2022, John Fetterman's medical conditions have overshadowed his political career for almost a year. Nevertheless, he was able to win one of the year's most important US Senate races. But after assuming office this year, he found it difficult to adjust to Senate life and, in February, sought treatment for depression at Walter Reed hospital. He's anticipated to start working regularly again in April.

What is Giselle complaining about and why?

"From the moment John shared his news, vicious attacks started pouring in. John suffered a stroke during his Senate campaign, so I already knew how cruel people could be about judging someone’s health and using it as a weapon," she wrote in the women's magazine Elle.

Cast as 'ambitious, power-hungry wife'

Fetterman's wife concentrated particularly on the assaults she alleged exceeded those on her husband by a large margin. But she also admitted that she was shocked to learn that this time, most of the harassment was aimed at her rather than John. "They promoted conspiracy theories claiming I was an ambitious, power-hungry wife, secretly plotting to fill his Senate seat. It was all so wildly preposterous," she stated, adding, "I’ve been dealing with a version of this for several years now. As soon as John’s political profile began to grow, I started receiving hate mail—ten times more than John ever got himself."

'Hillary Clinton and Michelle Obama faced for decades'

Fetterman grouped herself with other well-known female personalities who have attracted attention. "They’re the same attacks leveled at Meghan Markle, Jada Pinkett Smith, and Jill Biden—my apparent competitors for ‘worst wife in America.’ They echo the dehumanizing bullying that women like Hillary Clinton and Michelle Obama have faced for decades," she claimed. "And they leave women shouldering a heavier side of the blame, no matter what we do."

She lamented that, according to her experiences and those of others, "millions of young women" were being instructed to soak up criticism. "This misogyny affects everything they do," Gisele wrote, adding, "It spreads in the classroom, at the dinner table, and of course, on social media."

'If the shoe fits, wear it'

Meanwhile, Gisele received harsh criticism on social media for making comparisons to other well-known women. A user tweeted, "Yes she is greedy." Another user mentioned, "Uhm, truth hurts." One person wrote, "Power-hungry wife says what?" A person noted, "If the shoe fits, wear it."

"You are what you are. It’s too clear to deny. Sorry kiddo!" remarked another user. One person claimed, "The Fetterman's are now 'royalty'?" "I have never heard one thing about her. But comparing herself to Megan Markle-that is another level," said another.
