SAN LUIS POTOSÍ, MEXICO: A three-year-old girl, Camila Roxana Martinez Mendoza, woke up at her own funeral on August 18 after doctors at the Salinas de Hidalgo Basic Community Hospital declared her dead due to dehydration. Now, the family of the deceased is accusing the staff of the hospital of negligence.

According to DailyMail, on August 17, the girl's mother, Mary Jane Mendoza, rushed Camila to a pediatrician in the municipality of Villa de Ramos when she started experiencing stomach pain, vomiting and fever. The paediatrician suggested to take Camila to the community hospital where she got treated for dehydration. The mother said that the physicians placed a cold towel over her body to lower the temperature and, as per Mirror, was prescribed paracetamol. The DailyMail report further states that the physicians placed a pulse oximeter to record her oxygen level. Following this, she was discharged after an hour. However, Camila's situation got worse and she was taken back to the hospital where she got admitted between 9 pm and 10 pm before being declared dead, as per Mirror.

The mother said, while recollecting the details of what happened, "Now they wanted to connect her to an IV drip, they took a long time connect her to oxygen, they couldn't do it because they couldn't find her veins, finally a nurse managed it." As per NY Post, after about 10 minutes, the IV was removed. “She still was hugging me, they took her away and told me, ‘You have to let her rest in peace," said the mother. Mary got, then, separated from Camila and was kept in a different, locked room. She had the access to get out of the room but couldn't get into the room where her daughter was being kept. Camila was later declared dead from dehydration.

The following day, during Camila's funeral, her grandmother noticed the girl's eyes were moving while family members proceeded to check her pulse, confirming she was alive. She was rushed by an ambulance to the same hospital where she was declared dead for the second time due to cerebral edema (brain swelling), as per DailyMail.

The mother told, as quoted by NY Post, “That was really where my baby was done. We are devastated because my girl was a very happy person, she got along with everyone, she didn’t single anyone out. We have many people on the ranch who support us because she was cherished.” She also added, "What I really want is for justice to be served. I have no grudge against the doctors [who] went to extreme [measures]. I only ask that the doctors, nurses and directors be changed so that it does not happen again.”

According to the General State Attorney, Jose Luis Ruiz, the case is being investigated and an autopsy is underway.
