Schoolgirl, 13, who hanged herself was once woken up by stepdad at 1.30 am to mop the floor as punishment
Amber Peat was found dead three days after she went missing from home. Her mother and stepfather did not raise the alarm for eight hours as she ran away from home frequently.
An inquest has heard how a schoolgirl who was found hanged in a hedgerow was once woken by her stepfather at 1.30 am to make her mop the floor. After several rows with her parents over domestic chores, little Amber Peat, 13, struggled with the demands of growing up at home until she lost all hope, Daily Mail reports.
Staff at Amber's school, Queen Elizabeth School in Mansfield, presented evidence of abuse in court on Monday. Rebecca Beard, Amber's former teacher, recalled a string of incidents the embattled child had confided in her about what went on at home with her stepfather Danny Peat. The 13-year-old was once punished for failing to fulfill domestic chores and woken up by her stepfather at 1.30 am to mop floors.
