It has now been revealed that the 12-year-old girl who gave birth earlier this month was impregnated by her own 14-year-old stepbrother. The young child went into labor in her home in Perth, where the baby was eventually delivered before she was transferred to the King Edward Memorial Hospital with her healthy baby earlier in January. Once at the Peel Health Campus, she told the hospital staff that she did not have any clue that she was pregnant.
WA Police Commissioner Chris Dawson said in a statement that the safety of the child parents and their baby was very important. He told the West Australian: "It's a very delicate, sensitive situation but we're primarily concerned about making sure the right support mechanisms are in place. While there is a police investigation, it's primarily centered on the welfare."
