As the Black Lives Matter movement continues to spread like a wildfire, people are coming out in large numbers to fight for the rights of African Americans. Besides demanding justice for Geroge Floyd’s tragic death and standing defiant against police brutality, millions of internet users are using different social media platforms to express pride towards the black community. As more and more black people are sharing as to why they are proud of themselves and their heritage, #iamblack is trending on Twitter.

For a long time now the black community has endured a lot of pain and unfairness at the hands of the federal system and racists, solely because of their skin color. In the light of Floyd’s death, black people have asserted that they are as human as anybody else of a different skin tone and how they don’t deserve to be treated differently.

While one Tweet read, “I am black, I should not be treated differently because of my skin. black and proud that I am I would never change my race because black isn’t just a skin color it has history and specialty’s that no other race has”.

“I am black and I love it. It's one of the things I love best about myself, and one of the things I'm most proud of. I've always said that if I had to wake up and do it all again, I'd still want to be a black woman,” added another.

Many from the black community are using the opportunity to spread awareness about their heritage and shed light on its anecdotes.

While one wrote, “Drew, my grandfather(maternal) fought and was wounded (stomach) in the Korean war. I am black, damn drew, #BlueLivesMatter and justice should be just as swift for them as it is for the rest of us.”

“I AM BLACK beautiful and proud. I learned my Real history and embraced the work, dedication and love my ancestors provided. I am black and I love it,” added another.

Meanwhile, many of the tweets focus on the achievements of black individuals and the need for them to be treated with equal respect. “I AM BLACK. I am educated. I am a small business owner running my freelance Graphic and Creative Design business @jaaron_creative. I am an amazing wife and mother and I AM ENOUGH!,” said one.
