George Floyd death: Octavia Spencer 'terrified' after watching video of cops shooting in white residential area
The death of George Floyd has sparked nationwide outrage. In a video that went viral, Floyd could be seen struggling to breathe as former police officer Derek Chauvin knelt on his neck and ignored his plea. The tragic incident took place on May 25 when Floyd was handcuffed and put face down on the street. Floyd was unresponsive within two minutes and 53 seconds, according to the criminal complaint filed against Chauvin.
Street protests over the killing of Floyd seem to be getting worse by the minute and celebrities are sharing all the updates on social media. Amid all the ruckus, Academy Award winner Octavia Spencer took to Instagram to share a distressing video. "Please get home safely y’all! 6pm curfew LA county," the caption read. It also said, "If this is what they’re doing in white residential neighborhoods… I’m terrified at what’s going to happen in the black and brown ones... This isn’t in the middle of a riot or looting, this is a residential area. These are citizens in front of their own homes on their own property. These are VERY troubling times... PLEASE BE SAFE!"
No sooner did she share it, fans and followers couldn't stop reacting to her post and several viewers were shocked. "Do you hear the fear in the cops voice tho? They sound like scared little kids yelling. These are the authorities?? No wonder they shoot first and ask questions never," one posted and another said, "So sad, hard times." Another said, "This is terrifying! Jesus continue to protect us." One wrote, "How hard is it to get inside? Filming is over." One posted, "That’s disturbing." Another pointed out, "8PM curfew for LA county." One said, "What part of 'Light em up!' wasn't understood? Well, they know now... what WE have known too long," and another wrote, "Nothing like a bunch of amped-up power thriving white men screaming and demanding."
One worried Instagram user wrote, "What has this country turned in to?" Another said, "This is crazy! They were in their property." One went on to say, "That is bulls**t!!! They don't want witnesses to watch their actions!!!"
