Wealthy art dealer's 21-year-old son hangs himself at home after his model girlfriend dumped him
The son of a rich art dealer has reportedly committed suicide after he was dumped by his model girlfriend. The 21-year-old Kai Schachter-Rich had been dating 20-year-old Lady Lola Crichton-Stuart, daughter of the 7th Marquess of Bute. The couple's Instagram revealed that they enjoyed a lavish lifestyle posting pictures from parties, art shows and vacations.
According to Daily Mail, the investigators suspected that Schachter-Rich couldn't bear the thought of living without his girlfriend when she dumped him. They found his body at his home in north London on March 11 this year. A post mortem examination revealed that he had consumed a cocktail and drugs before he hung himself. Schachter-Rich was the son of Kenny Schachter-Rich, a New York art dealer and Ilona Rich, an artist.
Schachter-Rich's grandfather was Marc Rich, a financier known as the "king of commodities" after he founded Glencore, a multi-billion dollar company. The young man had been attending the Slade School of Fine Arts in London. Schachter-Rich lived in both London and New York.
An inquest at St Pancras Coroner's Court on Wednesday, August 21, heard that Kai's friend, Jordan Vickers, was told by Lady Lola that she hadn't heard from Kai all day. She was in Spain at the time, the inquest heard.
Vickers then went to Schachter-Rich's house, climbed in through the first-floor window after a number of failed attempts to reach him on his phone.
Paramedics arrived at the location at 10.22 pm and shortly pronounced Schachter-Rich dead. The cops also found marijuana and an empty bottle of whiskey at the scene.
It was reported that PC Alex Bratterman discovered a text message on Schachter-Rich's phone from his girlfriend. It seemed like she had ended their relationship. It's not known if Schachter-Rich had seen the message or not as no note was found. The toxicology report revealed that Schachter-Rich was drunk when he committed suicide but not incapacitated.
There were traces of ecstasy, cocaine, and marijuana found in his body but that did not contribute to his death. Lady Lola is a socialite and model, her father Johnny Crichton-Stuart, the 7th Marquess of Bute is a former Formula 1 driver.
Just weeks prior to Schachter-Rich's death, the couple had celebrated Valentine's Day together. After his death, she wrote, "You taught me so much about life and love, my role model, my rockstar. A life without you is a life I can’t bear the thought of. The thought you were in pain and suffering in silence breaks my heart. I wish I could have done more to save you. You made this world a better, brighter place with your epic energy and goofy grin and a huge heart. I loved you with every bone in my body and more."
Coming to a conclusion on the reason for his suicide, assistant coroner Sarah Burke shared, "It isn't entirely clear why this young man decided to end his life. It may have been because of a breakdown of his relationship or by other causes that will remain unknown. Kai was a bright man with a bright future."
