‘Gangs of London’ Episode 1 Part 2: Should Sean Wallace trust Elliot or will he turn out to be a snitch in the end?
Spoiler for ‘Gangs of London’
In a world where trusting your own blood is not easy, can you trust a man who suddenly entered your world? Set in the heart of London, the Wallace Family organization faces a sudden power vacuum when Finn Wallace (Colm Meaney) is shot dead and nobody knows who ordered it. The second episode of ‘Gangs of London’ puts Sean Wallace (Joe Cole) into a dilemma when Elliot Finch (Sope Dirisu) lands at his doorstep with Jack O'Doherty (Emmett J Scanlan) — the driver of Finn who saw him last before he got shot — and Sean can't decide whether he's a friend or an enemy.
While Sean puts a gun to his head after a brutal fight, Elliot tells him to “f**k off” and proves his loyalty by revealing the details of who was responsible for Finn's death. It was a “couple of pikey kids,” Elliot says. Unable to believe his words, Sean doesn't let go until he discloses the number on the vehicle registration plate too — G443 SAV. Taking a moment to himself, Sean then steps back and takes his gun away. At that time, he believes him. But does he and SHOULD he trust him?
After getting a green flag from Sean's side, Elliot soon learns the whereabouts of the car and rushes to investigate where the kids are. As soon as he gets there, one of the boys — Darren Edwards (Aled ap Steffan) leaves in a car with others. Right before that, Patrick (Garmon Rhys) is manipulated to call his younger brother Ioan (Darren Evans) to find out where they are hiding. “Pat... I'm sorry about your car. We f**ked up. We didn't know. I swear. I really tried to stop it,” Ioan sobs on the phone. When Pat reassures him he's coming, he lets slip his location: “Saint Ralph's... by the train tracks. Fifth floor.”
When Elliot reaches there, he walks in to see Ioan lying in the bathtub, mutilated at the hands of a blood-stained gang member. The gang member tries to choke Elliot and after a tense tussle, Elliot manages to kill him. Then he turns to Pat and asks where they took the other boy. However, Pat takes the gun in his mouth and fires a bullet.
Perhaps, one of the most shocking turns in the episode comes when Elliot meets DI Vicky Chung (Jing Lusi) near the apartment and their conversation reveals that he is an undercover cop. She even hints on how he may be able to get close to Sean Wallace’s family and get some crucial intel for them. That brings us to the major conflict. Should Sean put his trust in Elliot or will he be betrayed in the end? Well, only time will tell. For now, we can only say that there is no place for trust in the brutal crime world. As author Carlos Ruiz Zafón rightfully put it: “Never trust anyone, Daniel, especially the people you admire. Those are the ones who will make you suffer the worst blows.”
‘Gangs of London’ premieres on AMC Plus on Thursday, October 1, 2020. The first three episodes will air on the premiere date and the rest of the 10-part series will be followed by weekly episodes on Thursdays.
