'Game of Thrones' Season 8 final battle could find Tyrion Lannister as the last man standing
Tyrion Lannister knows well that war is not won by simply fighting, one needs to have the skill to survive in order to win. This may prove to work in his advantage in the final war
Barely two weeks are left for the biggest battle on television to take place, as 'Game of Thrones' Season 8 returns to HBO. Following the release of the official trailer, the show has been dropping teasers to give a glimpse of what is going on in Winterfell, and after 'Survival' and 'Together', the show's latest teaser 'Aftermath' might give us the biggest clue of them all. Let's just say, 'Aftermath' almost echoes one of the show's most famous sayings, 'Valar Morghulis' which means "All men must die". The finale seaon will see the enemies in Westeros join hands to fight the army of the dead, who, as we know from Season 7, have already broken the Wall and are about to reach Winterfell.
'Aftermath', as the title indicates, gives us nothing but a spanning view of the wastes of war. In a snow-clad Winterfell, we get to see the disaster which might have driven everyone out of the kingdom leaving it deserted. However, like most wars, we get to see some relics which might tell us about who survives in this battle between the dead and the living. As the camera pans from the dungeons to the courtrooms and into the courtyard, we get to see Arya Stark's (Maisie Williams) sword, Needle, Jon Snow's (Kit Harrington) sword, Longclaw, Jaime Lannister's (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) hand, Daenerys Targaryen's (Emilia Clarke) chain, and Bran Stark's (Isaac Hempstead Wight) wheelchair. We also get a glimpse of a wolf's statue which could be indicative of Sansa Stark's reign as the Lady of Winterfell.
Also, a new tweet from the show gives us a glance at all the soldiers who have fought in the Great War. We clearly see that most of our beloved heroes and the Night King are lying dead, and this might just be indication that death is near for all of them.
It might be odd but these scattered relics might just hit us with the harsh reality that in the war they have all died, and maybe only Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage) has made it till the end. In the earlier teaser, 'Together', we heard Tyrion telling everyone that they will all have to fight together if they want to survive, and that has always been his key strategy.
Tyrion is not a man who looks at winning wars but rather, looks for a way to survive. While others have been hogging at the Iron Throne, including his mad sister, Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey), Tyrion has mostly concentrated in the strategy of staying alive while all around him were being crushed to death. Throughout the show, there have been countless instances when Tyrion was the only man standing on the battlefield.
The teaser of 'Survival' already gave us several glimpses of the bloody war. We saw Jaime in the middle of a burning battlefield, the dragons flying high as though alarming themselves about the impending doom, while Arya who looks quite wounded tries to escape the dungeon — right where we see her sword, Needle. Could this all mean that our heroes are about to be frozen to death with the upcoming War? If so, then does Cersei really get to keep her throne? Maybe not. Perhaps Tyrion will finally be the Hand of the King who will slay the mad Queen just as Jaime had killed the "Mad King" Aerys Targaryen when he went completely insane over the Iron Throne.
'Game of Thrones' Season 8 is returning to HBO on April 14, and Winter is here, so "all men must die"!
